Anyone who follows aviation know KS representative Todd Tiahrt represents the Wichita area and made it a huge issue to win a tanker deal for Boeing and the US to help the Wichita economy. With that being offered to Europe, Todd is now under alot of scrutiny and it wouldn't suprise me if voters in the Wichita area expressed their frustrations.. Maybe another gain in the house for the dems??

He'd probably have to be under indictment during the election for a Democrat to come close in that district.

McCain is not well liked here in KS, take a look at the primary and his involvement with the Boeing problems of a few years ago... This could actually be a strange perfect setup if a strong Democrat runs against him.. I wont dare say KS is going blue, but I truly think if its Obama vs McCain... it may be very tight hear... Something is in the wind now....

Tiahrt won by a shade under 30pts last time. O/c the district has certainly seen big swings in the past.

Not in that CD and not with any of the factors you've mentioned.

It would seem like a slightly odd thing to do. Unless Tiahrt was somehow personally responsible for Boeing not getting that contract. And even then...

I have to agree with you on this. Democrats are more than happy with a split in Kansas' House delegation; 75% control in a state that shows up on the national electoral map every four years the same color as Dorothy's slippers just wouldn't be right...

No.

And please Kansas Dems, don't try. Focus your efforts on Boyda.

Originally I thought you were talking about Jerry Moran's District in KS-1, which surely must be one of if not the safest Republican District in America.

Tiahrt represents KS-4, which voted 64%-34% for Bush in 2004 after going 59%-37% for him in 2000.  If Barack Obama was stronger than the average Democrat in Kansas (Which I believe he has the potential to be) he might well be able to break 40% but its doubtful.  It must be mentioned that KS-4 was held for 20 years by Dan Glickman, and that Tiahrt faced somewhat competitive challengers up until 2002 for this seat.  He defeated Glickman 53%-47% in 1994, yet won with just 50% in 1996, with 58% in 1998 and 54% in 2000.  In 2000 he broke 61% and has not gone under since then, winning 66%-31% in 2004 and 64%-34% in 2006.  It might be interesting to see if Obama and whoever is running against Tiahrt in 2008 could get above 40% of the vote - it looks doubtful however.
