That would be because most left wing voters are idiots, I'm afraid.

Wait, what has just happened? I am now confused.

I think Purple State edged me out for the fifth seat.

First round of voting:

14-Bacon King (surplus of 2)
11-Franzl
11-Afleitch
9-Lief
9-SPC
9-Purple State
8-DWTL

DWTL has lost. I'm sure SPC thus wins with all of the second preferences. Leaving Lief and Purple State battling for the fifth seat. Most of BK's surplus will go to Lief, and most of SPC's will go to Purple State. So I don't know who has won quite yet...

Of course, I'm not sure if the booth closed at 1:12:00 or 1:12:59. If the latter, then Phil and Jas just missed the deadline.

Does all Federal election go down to the wire like that? That was great!

Unfortunately not. This has been an incredible race turnout wise and excitement wise.

I believe I pulled enough last 5 minute votes to get a seat. A lot of stuff happened since the last update though so no clue what the breakdown is.

Presumably at 1:12:35, exactly 72 hours after it opened.

In which case Jas made it in by 4 seconds. Nice.

Which would mean Phil made the vote but not the write-in acceptance.

There have been a lot of close elections under this system, though.

They're usually fun.

I suspect that PS knocks out DWTL, whose preferences will mainly flow to SPC and thus electing him, and then both (at a lower transfer value) will flow predominantly to PS, bringing him ahead of Lief. It looks to me like the numbers will be:

3 DA
1 JCP
1 RPP

First round of voting:

14-Bacon King (surplus of 2)
11-Franzl
11-Afleitch
9-Lief
9-SPC

Assuming most DWTL votes flow to SPC, SPC will have a greater Surplus, so his votes will have a higher transfer value than BK's, and therefore (obviously preferences do leak to various other places) but if his preferences predominantly flow to PS, and BK's predominantly to Lief, it's likely that PS will be elected on the back of SPC's surplus.

That would be truly amazing if we really got in all 3 DA candidates.

It would be a testament to our versatility and less ideologically driven nature. We believe in practical solutions. That gets votes.

Yes, Purple State and I have worked together in the Mideast Assembly and we are nothing ideologically alike.

I'm still counting, but you all seem to have overlooked that SPC edited his own vote about 2 hours ago...

If it is true that Purple State wins, then the new breakdown of the Senate would be:

RPP: 4(-1)
DA: 4(+2)
JCP: 2(nc)
SDP 0(-1)

How long has it been since the last time only three parties were represented in the Senate?

There are two issues left to deal with in this election's aftermath.  First we need one or two new assembly members.  I'd first recomend devilman and then persepolis.  Then if SPC does drop his bid does the next person after him take the spot or does the present vote count and we move on to a special election for the last seat.  Assuming he does'nt take the seat as he says he won't.

So he killed his own vote to push DWTL forward. Or did he bump himself below Lief?

I have already spoken to Inks on this matter. It seemed obvious we would have at least one seat empty from fairly early in the day.

I think Devilman & Persepolis would make excellent choices for Assembly. Smiley

Yes, I have noticed a slight drop-off, but I have not been as active with the Assembly of late. The controversial gun bill was basically tabled and no real action went on after that.

You are the only members of the region I could see being strong candidates for the positions at the moment.  As has been said it all depends on the vote breakdowns whether we need 2 replacements or just one.

Full count to come...
