No; my tax money shouldn't be going to the CoS's coffers.

Yes. I hope Tom Cruise gives it a go one day. I'd vote for someone from most every faith, even a Moonie. As long as they had sensible policies. I could even vote for a Creationist, on the very very slight chance he was a social liberal.

EVER? Well, depends on the office and the individual. For a high ranking office I wouldn't, but mainly because the CoS would pressure the individual into making policy decisions favorable to it. Some low ranking offices might be fine though.

The vast majority of elected officials in this country belong to a religion that substitutes faith for logic.  (Not to say that everyone who believes it does so for illogical reasons, but many certainly do.)

Many of those people belong to a religion that demands things I see as immoral too.

I'd be less likely to vote for them, but I've bit this bullet before and will certainly bite it again.

I don't see why not. They're religious extremists, but plenty of issues can trump that one.

It depends on the Scientologist.  I'd vote for a Scientologist who was otherwise a good Democrat and agreed with me on the issues.

No, anyone gullible enough to join such an obvious money-making cult shouldn't be in office.

I have to admit that I would likely be unable to vote for someone who is actively involved in the Church of Scientology.

You think all Scientologists should be in elected office? Wink

I wouldn't trust their judgement nor their integrity, so no. And Alcon, I don't think the comparison with ALL religions is really valid in this case. It's like saying you'd in theory be fine voting for a member of the KKK because you'd be ready to vote for members of other political organizations. I mean, most peoples' problem with scientology is not that their belief in religion means substituting faith for logic, etc.

No for the reasons given by others.  You've got to be a major league tool to get in with those creeps.

No way. All your tax dollars will go to the Church (and we don't mean the one with the real God).

Depends on the office and the candidate.  If it's a liberal for Sheriff, then yes.  If Mitt Romney became a Scientologist and ran again for President, then no.

Saw a guest viewing this.

I don't know, I don't think I'd ever vote for a Satanist either.

No, I don't want to give money to the Church of $cientology. At least the Church of Mormon doesn't sue everyone who dares to say bad things about it.

Not for a higher office. Ancient religions seem less radical because they rely on ideas that could be metaphorical and they have a long-standing base. Recent ones like Scientology are just insane. They don't mean these things as metaphors and they are just radically insane ideas. Christianity, Judaism, and Isalm may not be much better, but there is nothing as inconceivable as Scientology. You can almost view Scientology as a spoof of organized religion, like Pastafarianism.

Not a dedicated Scientologist. I'm afraid of what they would do to the medical and education systems.

Why not? It's no less insane or any less of a scam than judaism, christianty or islam. The argument that those religions are more valid due to their age is silly.

Cuz the central tenant of the S cult is separating you from your wallet. And who can afford that these days, eh?

Hell no... and yeah, that's definite bigotry, but it's also practical.

David Miscavige as Secretary of the Treasury? No thanks.
