I have just spoken to the Pakistani High Commission in London and have been told that the election has polling between 10.00am and 5.00pm (local time) that equates to 5.00am to 12.00pm (GMT) and 12.00am to 7.00am (EST) on Monday February 18th 2008.

With regard to the actual results, I get the following Pakistani channels: Pakistani Television Prime, DM Digital (based in Manchester, England), Pakistani Television Global, GEO UK and GEO News so will hope that one or more of these will show the results live. I have already seen some party election broadcasts (which seem to be along the lines of views of modern Pakistan followed by party logo) and an advert by Pakistani Television asking young people to vote.

I think it's very likely. I will say one thing interesting I like the poll on the front page.

Q. What do you think who will win the Elections 2008?

PML(Q)
PML(N)
PPP

The default answer is the PPP!

Even though he does. I'd say PPP normally, but free and fair elections in Pakistan are real dicey.

No exit polls to report (but it is being reported that an unknown person has disappeared with 200 ballot papers in one constituency).

Geo News is showing a tally of all the constituencies in numerical order with the names of the first two parties and the number of polls so far counted. The greatest number of polls counted so far is 4% (in constituency number 49) and so far the national tally is 1% counted. At this rate it will take 2½ days to to get a 100% poll count).

We have had the following declarations(colours as used by GEO News)

Pakistani People's Parliamentary Party 1 seat (District 33)
Independent 1 seat (District 43)

Based on the % polls counted so far the next district to declare is likely to be District 123 (which has 53% of the polls counted so far) and is a PML (N) lead over an Independent.

Rather different results here

http://www.dawn.com/events/election08/results/index.htm

and here

http://www.elections.com.pk/results_latest.php?assemblyId=1

Is it just the matter of the official/unofficial affiliation, different results reported, or is it more serious?

That actually made me laugh out loud.

BTW, I looked up the Awami National Party and it looks pretty kickass.  What's the catch?

According to the Dawn, PPP and PML(N) are far ahead of everyone else, w/ 16 seats each so far. PML(Q) has only 3, behind ANP w/ 4. MQM has 2, BNP - 1 and there are 6 Indys.

Looking district by district, both PPP and PML(N) have lots of pick-ups. PML(Q) leader lost his seat in Gujrat II.

PPP 18
PML(Q) 7
ANP 5
MQM 2
BNP (A) 1
Others 7

PPP 26
PML(Q) 10
ANP 6
MQM 5

The apparent collapse of the MMA is very interesting.
