The SPF is a political party being formed to stand in the first PR elections. If you are interested in the party, please don't change your electoral registration yet; the party is still at a provisional stage and we may even look at a different way of organisation to previous political parties.

The details of the SPF's organisation, programme and so on don't exist yet, but I'll make one thing clear; The SPF is not going represent a more radical version of American Liberalism. People who want to join a party advocating that should look elsewhere. Quite a few other things flow from that.

Much, much more to come at a later date. Feedback is more than welcome.

I think I'm following you here... but our visions of socialism may still vary widely. Grin

Well the idea is for the SPF to be a, this is such a cliché, something of a broad church as far as visions of Socialism goes so that shouldn't be a problem Smiley

That will depend on the issue in question. But in general I would say fairly liberal on such issues, but also quite flexible on them.

Why not just restart the Farmer-Labor Party since this is to all intents and purposes an exact replica of it?

Because it isn't, or won't be, an exact replica of it. The internal structure of the Party will be very different and the Party is being created for a very different reason and in a very different political climate.

Having said that, I wouldn't object if people interested in the SPF would prefer it to be called the FLP.

Some ideas for the structure of the party;

1. there should be a leadership body of some sort and it should be elected every two months (four is too long, one probably not long enough). I'm not sure whether it would be better to have a general committee type thing, or individual posts.

2. endorsements and changes (if any) to the party platform should be made every two months.

3. I want to try something different with membership; something along the lines of saying that people can only join the party by applying to join it but people can be registered in another party and still be a member of this one (though there would have to be a list of proscribed parties and so on). People would only leave the party if they declared that they were leaving or are expelled in some way. Is that worth a try or just insane?

Too bad Pollo joined, then you could have made a party rule for only over 15 year olds and I would have found it amusing. But, its not to be...

Good ideas, especially #3. It wouldn't be a party in the strictest sense of the word, but we don't need any more of those.

Perhaps if the name of the party didn't mock Atlasia.

The name "Fantasyland" does not mock Atlasia, it praises it. To the hilt.
