The mere presence of Thompson could push McCain over the top here (and as a result, nationally).  I strongly suspect that if Thompson dropped out, Huckabee would pick up the vast majority of his support. With Huckabee and Thompson's combined support now at 35%, that would make for a very tight 2-way race in SC.

Well, Thompson isn't going to drop out until after SC.  Since he can't win, he seems intent on doing McCain's dirty work for him.

Also, welcome to the forum.

I'm rooting for Thompson here. Brokered convention!

He's really got a bounce from New Hampshire hasn't he? I am quite surprised by how big it has been. I guess I can say McCain's likely victory in South Carolina is some 8 years too late.

I'm sorry. I still don't buy that McCain can win here. This seems like Huckabee country as far as I can tell. I just don't see much support for McCain around here. This just doesn't make sense.

Going by the 2000 Primary results, McCain won the coastal areas (Charleston, Hilton Head, Horry County) while Bush did much better inland (Columbia, Greenville and all rural areas). I guess it depends on where you are in the state. Huckabee is probably doing well right now in the places Bush won.

Why, too late? Reagan's first run made him the possible President from 1969-1977. His second run made him a possible President from 1977-1985. His destiny though, was to preside over the 1980's, from 1981-1989.

Maybe it was Bush's destiny to be President during the 2000's and McCain's is to be President in the 2010's?

Lt. Dan said we all have a destiny. Cheesy
