How would the 1968 Presidential Election turn out if these were the tickets?

Democratic

President: Senator Edmund S. Muskie of Maine
Vice President: Senator Vance Hartke of Indiana

Republican

President: Former Vice President Richard M. Nixon of New York
Vice President: Senator Mark O. Hatfield of Oregon

American Independent

President: Former Governor George C. Wallace of Alabama
Vice President: General Curtis E. LeMay of California

NOTE: Hubert Humphrey declines to seek the 1968 Democratic Nomination and the nomination is thrown to Senator Muskie.

How would this election turn out? Discuss with maps.

I really don't think there is that much of a change. Texas goes to Nixon while Muskie picks up Iowa, Wisconsin and Indiana (because of Hartke).

Nixon: 292
Muskie: 200
Wallace: 46 (I'm counting the NC electorate that went to him)

Richard M. Nixon/Spiro T. Agnew (R): 313 Electoral Votes
Edmumd S. Muskie/Vance Hartke (D): 171 Electoral Votes
George C. Wallace/Curtis E. LeMay (AI): 54 Electoral Votes1

1 Like CPTMikeyMike I am including the faithless Republican elector that casted his vote for George C. Wallace instead of Richard Nixon
