Duh.

Mainly directed at Sam, but is there any chance that some independent voters unexpectedly broke late for Romney?  This could be the reason for McCain's low margin among Independents.

Romney called McCain to congratulate him. What I would've given to listen to that call.

Other way around.  I suspect Republicans broke late for McCain.

Wow, I just realised that Duncan Hunter exists.

Also, Paul and Giuliani appear to both be at 9% right now, which amuses me to no end.

To those who think that McCain is the presumptive nominee, they're selling McCain contracts at 40% at InTrade.

Well I have to say that this McCain win has made me very happy. Hopefully there will actually be a Republican candidate I could vote for in November.

I don't know really what to make of the Republican race.

If there's ever a year for a split convention to happen, this is it.

Throw this in with what's looking like will be the Democratic result, and this is the second time in a row we got results that may have been somewhat expected, but still have shock value.

Romney really makes me sick. His speech is just grating on me to no end. Whoever said he sounds like a used car salesman was absolutely right. It's good to see him lose.

Look folks, if McCain sweeps Michigan, Nevada and South Carolina, he will win.  That's a tough road to go.  Other than that, the race continues.

I do expect him to beat Romney in Michigan, however.

I don't think he'll win South Carolina.

Michigan will be another Romney-McCain battle.

Nevada...no clue.

Have you seen any decent Mich or Nevada polls or statistics recently?

I think the race will ultimately be between Huckabee and McCain now. I honestly don’t know who’d win that but I’d give the edge to McCain because he has such an edge in states that allow independents to vote. I’m starting to warm up to Huckabee as the VP, however.

I have a theory on this, though.

The Old Right and its intellegentsia dislike Huck and have always hated McCain. With Romney and Thompson nonviable, could we see fiscal purists and people like Limbaugh and the National Review editors coalesce around Giuliani? Ironically, could Giuliani's salvation be not moderates, but staunch conservatives?

Given the kind of result we seem to be getting out of NH I expect McCain and Huckabee to be the only ones left standing. Guliani has an outside shot but he needs to get moving somewhere soon.

I've never thought of that, and you may be right. However I think alot of McCain's support is former Guiliani support who jumped ship, so I think they largely take from the same base. And I don't think we'd ever see conservatives truely rallying around Guiliani. I personaly believe that Most of them in that case would just stay home. But hey, who knows, this race has already been pretty unconventional.

I love McCain but this speech is worst then both Huckabee and Romney's. He's getting his grove back as he goes on though, so that's good.
