Both Carter and Ford would be very unlikely candidates for their respective parties today, but it is safe to say that even if such a matchup were to occur, it wouldn't look like 1976. Not even Carter could win Mississippi today, and not even that matchup could have a Republican winning Marin county in California. So what would it look like?

here's my guess:

Carter can't win Georgia today and Ford can win Maine.

That matchup would certainly be amusing. It would pit an 80 year old against a 90 year old. And to think that people said Reagan was too old to be president. Tongue

he would win Georgia due to the homestate advantage. Without it, Ford couldn't win Michigan.

Homestate advantage isn't enough for Carter. He is way too liberal to win there if the election was this year.

Well Ford wouldn't win Michigan then. Also Ford isn't the type of Republican that plays well in Georgia, so I still think Carter would pull it off.

The  more liberal than he was in 1976 Jimmy Carter? I'm not so sure about that.
