New Year's Eve in this coming Monday.  How do you plan on ringing in 2008?

Feel free to go into as much or as little depth as you wish.

------

As for me, I plan on actually starting my celebrations Sunday night.  I'm going to sleep Sunday evening from about 6-11, then get up and watch the replay of the Independence Bowl on my DVR, then watch the Weather Channel until 4:00, then do my ritual every New Year's Eve and watch (on timeanddate.com) every single time zone in the world from Kiritimati, Kiribati (4:00 am) through the Mountain Time Zone (1:00 am) of the United States pass from 2007 into 2008.  I will also do my other ritual and watch Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008 on ABC starting at 9:00 through the time I go to bed at 1:00 am.

My same routine as every day during winter break: get up, eat, get dragged somewhere by my parents, read my complete set of Calvin and Hobbes, and post on the Atlas Forum.

I'll be at work (probably reading this message board) when the clock strikes 2008 here. Sad

I do my midnight work on Christmas and avoid New Years. I'll be with friends in town on Dec 31.

Given that every single holiday is nothing but what those celebrating it make of it, I'm not quite sure I follow.

very true.   most holidays are stupid.

as a christian, i think easter and christmas are significant.

but all of the hallmark holidays...valentines day, fathers day etc are dumb.

as are the 'let's get drunk' holidays...new years, memorial day, labor day etc.

I will most likely be here.

But I will celebrate with some apple juice, in a glass with flickering lights and with lighted ice cubes in it. That's how I've rung in the new year since I got that cup and ice cubes in 2003.

to be determined. At someone's party. Either a lame party with one of my best friends, or a great party with both of my best friends, if he decides to crash said great party.

There once was a time where I'd be spending my time here. It's bad enough I'm posting on a Friday night Wink

Probably at home with significant other.  Generally not a big fan of New Year's raucous celebrations, as these things go.

And why is that?

I'll be having a severely subdued new years at home with my family.

haha don't you have friends at home? When you go back home for the holidays, you're supposed to spend time with old friends from high school and what not.

I respectfully disagree.  I like all the holidays that are currently on the American calendar.  Let's start with the beginning of the year and I'll tell you why I like each one.

New Year's Day -- A fresh start and beginning of another chapter in my life.
Valentine's Day -- Some people (unlike me Sad  ) have significant others and its a chance for the men in the relationships to earn some points. Tongue
St Patrick's Day -- I'll admit, a useless holiday, unless you're Irish.
Easter Sunday -- The Resurrection of Christ the Savior
Mother's Day -- Honor thy mother
Memorial Day -- Honor and Remember the Men and Women who are fighting or have fought for YOUR freedom.
Father's Day -- Honor thy father
Independence Day -- Celebrate the birthday of the greatest country on the face of the planet
Labor Day -- Another day to remember the troops and veterans
Columbus Day -- Remember the man who founded this piece of land
Veteran's Day -- Its all in the name
Thanksgiving Day -- Give thanks with a grateful heart
Christmas Day -- Celebrate the birth of Christ the Savior
New Year's Eve -- Close out another chapter in your life.  Forget all the troubles of the past year (soberly, of course).

What?

Guess the memory didn't last too long. And, as far as I recall, Christopher Columbus did not "found" any land, and he didn't find North America, either.

And everybody knew the Earth was round.  He thought that the Earth was much smaller than everybody else thought it was.  Everybody knew you could get to China sailing West, they just (correctly) thought it would be impossible to do with the technology available at the time.   Few expected there to be 2 continents blocking the way from nearly pole to pole.

Columbus is probably the most over rated dude in history.  He didn't prove the Earth was round.  He never stepped foot in what is today the United States (except Puerto Rico).  He wasn't the first cracker to sail west and hit land.  He was a brutal ruler of Hispaniola.  He died thinking he had been exploring the east coast of China.

Not much different than last year, only that on this Dec. 31 I´ll be working from 10.30am until 1pm:

Number 3: Small party with friends incl. watching/launching fireworks in the city of Zell am See, then some nice hanging out with cocktails I hope.

I´m about to get ready now, New Year is here in 1,5 hours.

Therefore:

I wish you guys on the forum a nice, happy and healthy new year 2007 2008 Smiley
