My God.

RIP.

The sad thing is that this is exactly the same spot where Pakistan's first PM Liaquat Ali Khan was assasinated in 1951 and her father was executed in the same city of Rawalpindi.

Very unfortunate.  And the sad thing is, she pretty much knew it was going to happen and stuck it out anyway.

Current news says the shooter killed himself afterwards, so that will make finding out which group was behind this more difficult.

Horrid, on a human level.

On a geopolitical level, arguably one the very few assassinations that could lead to a nuclear war.

Yup. sh**t, if the pakis get behind the terrorists and nuke us, I think atomic genocide may become our only solution to the little spat we are in. Please tell me I am wrong. God Please! Holy sh**t! Can't believe I am saying this! Someone call me down.

I just saw this thread.

I just can't believe the cowardice of the people behind this killing.

I really had a lot of hope for Pakistan with Bhutto as such a freedom fighter.  I can't deny that I expected this to happen, but it is shocking nonetheless, and it leaves one with a certain feeling of despair.

As tragic as this is, I hope this moves the majority of Pakistanis that believe in democracy and freedom to be even more determined to attain those things and that those responsible for this extremist behavior are sought out and tried in a court of law.  I think Bhutto would be extremely proud if this can happen.

A horrible loss. Nuclear combat is unlikely but horribly more likely than this time yesterday. Personally should the worst happen and if Al-Qaeda get their finger on the button, we cannot leave them time to breathe. We have to preempt.

So, the chances jumped from 5% to 25%?
How would we do that?

Bhutto herself was Muslim, so let's not blame all one billion of them.

RIP Sister Bhutto.

There are two possibilities for escalation:

1.  A Ahmad Shah Massoud situation.  Al-Qaeda assassinated him two days before 9/11.  This could be a prelude to something worse.

2.  Pakistani nuclear weapons are stolen, possibly by al-Qaeda.   There would be a chance for very anti-Indian elements of the Pakistani Army to get a hold of them and use them against India..

Well, the conspiracy theorist would probably say that Musharraf was behind it. His main opponent was eliminated and he's got a pretext to declare martial law again. Besides, he now continues to be non-expandable for the United States.

On the other hand, some Islamist group was indeed most likely responsible.
