Looks as if Kerry won Maine yesterday.  Big surprise.

Kerry 4,843 45%
Dean 2,774 26% 0
Kucinich 1,581 15%
Edwards 916 9%
Clark 407 4%
Sharpton 23 0%

Why did Kucnich do so well though?

He has family in Maine and has campaigned there 7 times. Did he get any delegates?

Are those final numbers?  That's not very many voters, is it? A little over 10,000.  Makes you wonder why Dean didn't make a big push there, just to win a state would have helped him remain in the race, gain any possible momentum he could get out of it, anyway.  Or are those numbers representative of something else?

Well of course a caucus is so different from a primary; and then it's not like the god-state Iowa that pretty much determines the winner-- or rather, gives the media something to buzz about, which then determines the winner. Hey, if super bowl halftime was the same night as the caucuses, Dean might have won New Hampshire!

I don't know much about the 1980 election, what was John Anderson's platform?

Anderson ran for president in 1980 originally as a Republican, as a moderate.  He was anti-Reagan because he felt that Reagan's conservativism would hurt America, and he was also anti-Carter.  Anderson ran as a protest candidate in 1980, from the center-right.

Yeah, he was a liberal Republican, which at that time was not quite yet an endangered species.
