He's a former local councillor and is now a junior frontbench spokesman for the Tories. Wimbledon is one of those seats in the London suburbs (like Stephen Twigg's Enfield Southgate) which swung massively to Labour in 1997 to provide a shock gain, but then swung back in 2005.
