How would the 2004 Presidential Election turn out if these were the tickets.

Democratic

President: Senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota
Vice President: Senator Bill Nelson of Florida

Republican

President: President George W. Bush of Texas
Vice President: Vice President Dick Cheney of Wyoming

Discuss with maps.

Daschle wouldn't carry South Dakota, nor would they carry Florida.  Daschle would probably take about 47% in SD, and probably the same margin in Florida that Kerry did. Nelson wasn't too popular in Florida, and I'm pretty sure he still isn't. He won with a high percentage because it was a strong year for Democrats, and he went up against Harris.  Hell, I could have gone to Florida, won the nomination, and beat her.

The only state that Daschle picks up would be West Virginia. I like the guy, but I just don't see him winning in 2004.

Realistically, Daschle would have been a very weak Presidential candidate.

Daschle fails to win South Dakota and Nelson fails to deliver Florida.

A big win for Bush and Cheney.

Bush/Cheney                    345
Daschle/Nelson                 193

Here's how I believe the 2004 Presidential Election would with a Daschle/Nelson ticket.

George W. Bush/Richard B. Cheney (R): 289 EV 52%
Thomas A. Daschle/C. William Nelson (D): 249 EV 48%

Looks like Daschle did in his map.

Daschle would be painted as an obstructionist and it would have stuck with him. He doesn't do any better than John Kerry's performance. I'll also add that Bush would probably carry NH.
