Agree. I would have put it as workfare but not reduced it further.

It was too harsh on immigrants, kicked 11 million off welfare, and accentuated a sense of political thinking that persists today, that "welfare recipients are lazy and don't need it"

Would you have objected to it if the change had been keeping the programs eligibility as is but making on welfare have to work?

I don't support requiring welfare recipients to be employed, so yes.

Some of the people who need welfare the most are those who can't find work.  Maybe due to physical condition, previous criminal record, or low ability, or what have you.

Gee some people just can't cut it in life. You can't have perfection so just try to help the most possible even if it means leaving the bottom 10% behind. Simply legalize suicide plus paying people to get sterilizations/abortions.

I support legalized suicide, as well as public funding of abortions, but the "bottom 10%" should still be given the opportunity to have the right to pursue happiness.

The right to pursue happiness is mentioned in the declaration of indepenedence not the constittuion so it's irrelevant.

I'm not talking about the constitution.  They should have that right, regardless of whether it is constitutionally guaranteed or not.

Why? What makes being a welfare parasite and not contributing anything a right?

The government has an obligation, in my view, to take care of its citizens which are the worst off.

I don't see why my money should go to someone whose been in and out of prison on felony charges and can't find a job because of it.

Don't you consider the Constitution to be an illegal document anyway?

I broadly agree with most of Moynihan's criticisms of it.

And for those of us not in the know what were those criticisms?
