While I believe that we need to get off our addiction to oil, this is excellent news.  It is always a very good thing to hear that peaceful nations will be able to compete in the energy market.  With Brazil's new reserves, hopefully this will increase the influence of peaceful nations in the oil markets.

This is great news especially since Brazil is already mostly an exporter of oil.

I wonder why Brazil finding/exploring oil of its coast is a good thing, but for the US a catastrophe?

They'd probably make a better superpower than we do.

Yes, prostitution is legal there.  But this amount of oil is very small.

Who cares.

We need to focus ourselves away from oil and head towards wind and nuclear power.

Don't forget solar power and geothermal.

Ground temperatures about 3.5 miles down over most of the west are over 310*F.. we can inject water into this hot rock layer which heats the water to 310*F... then through another pipe, it comes back to the surface and as the pressure eases, it boils and turns to steam, which then runs a turbine...  Free electricity!

Getting energy from as close to the primary source of heat (sun, earth) is very important as it is the most efficient by far.

When most of the US is desert thanks to global warming we'll be a power exporter(solar exporter).
