A maverick and a left-winger, but popular in his constituency. Norwich North was a Tory seat 1983-97, while Norwich South was Labour in '87 and '92, but now this is actually the safer of the two Norwich seats for Labour.

Though before the '80's, North was a safe seat and South a marginal. Boundaries were different o/c, but even now, North is more working class than South (if you go by occupational statistics anyway; South has more council housing).
