A retread - he was originally elected for the newly created seat of Mid Dorset and North Poole in 1997 but lost it in 2001, and washed up in Norfolk in the 2005 election.

The Tories were very lucky in Dorset in 1997, winning all eight seats (I think the only other county where they managed a full house that year was Surrey). However, two of them (Mid and South) were held with very small majorities. In 2001, Mid Dorset and North Poole went LibDem and South Dorset went Labour. This was apparently helped by an anti-Tory tactical voting campaign run across the two seats by the left-wing singer Billy Bragg.
