Fail miserably. We are a college/tourist/yuppie/live music town, after all. It would fail by at least 60-70%.

We have two beer distributors, two bars, and two upscale restaraunts serving alcohol. For economic reasons I can't see it garnering even 20% of the vote.

75-80% against, 10-15% in favor.

I think the main reasoning behind banning the sale and consumption of alcohol here would be for health/social reasons that stem from abuse.  We have 2 large Indian Reservations near us, and one of them is dry, so my city is where many Natives come to buy alcohol.  Alcoholism is very high in these native communities and it has caused a lot of suffering and problems on the reservations.  Unfortunately, many people think that by banning alcohol, alcoholism and abuse will go away.

Even still, I think the "yes" vote would be less than 15%.

It'd get 40%, at most.

Ehh...be careful, there.  I've never actually seen any referendum, of any sort, get 95% against in the modern day.  There's always a number of people who reflexively vote "yes," and there's going to be voters who are annoyed by bar traffic and say "you can just go one city over!"

That having been said, 80-90% against in most cities, although obviously less in some locations.  It would probably pass all kinds of places in Utah.

In Bellevue it would probably be about 85% against.

Much of the county outside the inner cities is in effect dry already, thanks to some crooked agreement with the university. I know the voters of the county voted to be a wet county, but that was decades ago.

itd probably pass.

heck, just last year the voters of the state of massachusetts rejected a referendum that would have allowed wine to be sold in grocery stores.  just shows how 'liberal' and 'progressive' we are here!

i may be wrong, but i still dont think liquor-by-the-drink is allowed here in medford.

liberal, my ass.

LOL. It's not the Deep South, the only place where such nuttery is mainstream.

I would've voted against that as well. It has nothing to do being a conservative anti-alcohol prude. It's because if grocery stores could sell wine, which they would make a bigger profit on than most food items, they'd stock mostly that and the selection of food would go down. You can already buy wine at the liquor store, hell, two of the grocery stores here have attached liquor stores as well. I don't see anything that'd be gained by it.

And it's obviously a far cry between that and outlawing all alcohol in your city, period.

I think my town was dry until 1985. Not that it had any effect though, living in a conglomeration of  towns. I'm pretty sure my parents buy groceries in a different town than the one I live in.

LOL. You actually think that's the reason people oppose the sale of wine in grocery stores? That grocery stores would sell mostly wine?

Not that they would sell mostly wine, just that it would result in a slightly smaller selection of food items. I used to support allowing grocery stores to sell wine until a LTTE in the Star Tribune pointing out the above swayed me to the other side.

I really can't see any other reason to oppose it.

If students voted it would obviously fail, but since most students are registered to vote in their hometown, if at all, it would be close.  My guess it 52-48 fail.
