I find Dobson a perfect example of the kind of bitter and twisted ex-minister who has caused the Labour government so much trouble over the last few years.

We in the Labour party really ought to start giving knighthoods out to sacked ministers to keep them sweet; Thatcher and Major always used to do it and it seemed to work.

One MP once referred to him as the Member for the Two Tube stations.

A crazy beardie-weirdie - I was always amused by how badly he lost in the Mayoral election in 2000 - his career never seemed to recover.

Of course, he was pretty much strong-armed by Blair into running for that, partly because as a wellish-known leftie he might have more of a chance of stopping Livingstone, but mostly as an excuse for further streamlining the cabinet.
