Change of Registration Bill

1. Citizens who seek to register a change of state with the Department of Forum Affairs, but are restricted in the timing of such registration by Article V, Section 2, Clause 7 of the Constitution, shall be deemed to have made a valid change of state registration from the moment the constitutional time requirement passes.

2. Citizens may revoke such registrations at any point up until this time by making a declaration with the Department of Forum Affairs requesting said registration be ignored or discounted.

3. No particular series of words shall be required to effect clause 2 of this Act, simply that a reasonable determination of intent can be read by the Secretary of Forum Affairs to have the registration ignored or discounted.

This is an area of law which has caused more than its fair share of confusion and conflict. Frankly, I don't particularly care a great deal about which way the problem is solved, I just prefer that there be a definitive answer to questions of changes of registration.

On that basis, I have suggested that the general line taken by the DoFA be set into statute, specifically that attempts to change registration be given effect as soon as possible unless the person revokes the change before the change is to take effect.

Why wasn't this named the Kevin Bill?

I propose an amendment that this bill alternatively be known as the "Kevin Bill".

I fully approve of the bill and heartily disapprove of the amendment. Other Atlasians have been come into conflict with the rules before.

Grin

Well, this only deals with one of Kevin's electoral mishaps... I don't know how many provisions we would need to try and comprehensively cover all of Kevin's actual and probable errors.

The Vice President makes a fair point.

A truly thorough Kevin Act would likely need to address many other problems, which would, in all probability, be far too numerous to count.

For starters, the Kevin bill would require allowing anyone to vote in any election a person wants and no time limit on vote editing.

On the advice of other posters, I withdraw my amendment.  Tongue

This is just making a forum policy more official, I move for a speedy vote on this one, I don't really see the need for an amendment

We are now proceeding to a final vote on this legislation.

Change of Registration Bill

With 6 votes in favor and 4 Senators not voting, this bill has passed.

It is now presented to the President for his signature.
