No.  He's the fat John Kerry--all the credentials, but no substance.

He's a really good speaker. He's got some good positions, too.

That belongs in the Comedy Goldmine, since it basically implies Dodd has charisma.

He has more experience than Killary, Edwards, and Obama combined, but no, he's not "the real deal."  Biden probably best fits that category, and he's the most experienced of the bunch.

He has way higher unfavorable ratings than favorable ratings in most of the states where they have tested those numbers.

Besides, Dodd is as creepy looking as Tommy Thompson.  Do you really want 4 years of his deer-in-the-headlights stare on your tv screen?  Shocked

Outside of the Northeast (or even there too), he is seen as a boring candidate with no charisma, no new ideas and basically an establishment candidate. Basically he has no draw.

Serious comment: his accent is really stupid. I have Connecticut friends who tell me they don't know anyone who talks like that.

Yes, he's a serious and respectable politician (who I heartily disagree with on many issues). No, he is not and cannot be, in a normal cycle, a serious presidential candidate. He doesn't have that spark. Especially in a field of celebrities and dynamos on one flank, and flashy jokers on the other, his is a wasted and foolish effort (I would say the same of Biden, T. Thompson, and Hunter).

Chris Dodd is a likeable individual who would make a capable President.

He is more genuine than most any Presidential candidate at present.

I would like to see the Democrats nominate him for President.

Dodd would run an intellignet, issues oriented campaign.

No.  He's the fat John Kerry--all the credentials, but no substance.

More like all substance, but no charisma. (Not saying that was true of Kerry, but it's definitely true of Dodd.)

I'd have a beer with John Kerry. Although, I suppose part of my feelings towards him are because he's done a better job as Senator since the election.

Not that I care what you say, but I do want to point out the arbitraryness of this personal attack policy. It gets enforced a lot more if you attack a moderator.

Again, I am not running to the nearest moderator, or using my lack of moderator abilities to delete this, I just wanted to point out the double standard.

Walter

If Chris Dodd were somehow to pull off an upset and win the Democratic Presidential nomination, who would be his best Vice Presidential pick, and why?

1.  joe manchin.  would help pull in wv.  governor.  would possibly help with other economic populist types in places like ohio.

2.  bill ritter:  moderate governor.  could definitely help pull in colorado (which i suspect will be a lean democrat state in 08, regardless of what the democrat ticket is)

longshots:

tim kaine:  could put virginia in play.  would likely help nationally.
ted strickland:  would likely lock up ohio
mike easley:  would help nationally.  but not a natural campaigner.

really long shots:

Thanks Walter for the above.

Walter, as is well known, Seantor Hillary Clinton (NY), Senator Barack Obama (IL), former Senator John Edwards (NC), are considered to be the Democratic front runners.

Should Senator Chris Dodd (CT) be considered seriously by any or all of these for the Vice Presidential spot on their ticket, and why?

After all, being from Connecticut, and from the northeast, Dodd brings in no states in the election, as the Democrats would sweep the northeast anyway.

The guy you were insisting would be soundly rejected by Ohio for his politics for quite awhile.

I'm just saying without explaining it Walter has basically done a complete 180 on his view on what Ohio politics are like.
