Al, destroy this thread once answers/help have been given. I posted it here as the 'right' people wander by this thread. Smiley

I'm interested in digging out the original provisional proposals for UK constituency seats for '97, '83 etc simply as something to while away the wee small hours Tongue

I'm heading to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow to dig out the Scottish ones if I can. Question is, will these documents still exist in any accessable form?

Anyone know off hand of some of the joys/sins that were avoided from the review?

All sorts of odd things went on in the "Avon" review from what I remember.

The person responsible for Avon in the first place should be punched in the gut.

There are some 'mini reviews' going on right now at ward level, in Wilsthire, Somerset, Northants and Northumerland. I'll update the blank national map once they are done and dusted.

If I don't have much luck I can still go ahead with a '1983' review on old county boundaries Cheesy

That would either be that Redcliffe Maude (sp?) fellow, or whoever in the Heath government (or civil servant or whatever) drew up the new "counties" after deciding that they didn't like the look of the proposals of previously mentioned individual.

Either way I agree with you o/c.

If you manage to find out the reason why they decided to add "Pembroke North" to Ceredigion, I'd be very interested (considering that 14 years later they decided it was all a huge mistake!)

Should Welsh constituencies be reduced in line with Scotland at any future date (more Assembly powers etc) I would expect it to happen again Smiley

Which would be unfortunate; a far more logical Pembrokeshire division would be to add the Tenby area to the reunited Carmarthen seat.

I have a strnage feeling of deja-vu.  Trimming Wales to seats of 65/70000 is something not to be tried without a prior health warning. Especially when you're left with bits of Powys...

The creation of Powys was yet another '70's mistake o/c.
