I'm actually willing to say there's a 10% chance he won't run right now.  His numbers have already started to stagnate and will likely start going down unless McCain drops out.

This is getting f**king ridiculous.  To use a crude adage, either sh**t or get off the pot, Fred.

Yeah that is the sense I'm getting. Maybe his handlers are trying to keep him out of the debates as long as possible because they know he doesn't understand the issues and will make a fool out of himself.

Not to brag, but I suspected that when I first heard him on Hannity the night of the GOP debate.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong yet, but so far my suspicions are coming true.

This is getting annoying now. I'm behind the guy 100% but he needs to get in this race.

My guess is their could be a bit of truth to the abortion thing as well as the Nixon mole story, and Thompson is waiting to see how much of the story gets out and how damaged he might be before he decides to jump in or not.

Actually, that's apt in about a thousand ways.  I'm surprised it hasn't been lobbied around more.

To give credit, Sam, at least, has made the comparison earlier (as he so modestly pointed out...)

If Thompson starts to go nowhere it seems to be getting down to Romney or Guliani, both of which still seems somewhat unlikely.

For his own sake, and for that of the party, Fred Thompson should stay out of the fray longer than September, 2007, oh, let's say, until November, 2008.

He has been so hyped and so over rated.  He'll fall flat on his face.

Stick to acting.

Maybe he can land a role where he plays the part of the President.  That's as close as he'll ever get.

I like this news. This way, he's been able to help destroy McCain without having a chance himself. Cheesy

I'm predicting Romney will be the nominee.

I think he just played Grant in some movie. I'm not really sure I'd want people to associate that President in particuler with me if I was a candiate, but oh well. I'm beginning to believe that Thompson's not going to run. There were rumors that Gingrich might announce on the anniversary of the contract with America, which was in September, so maybe Thompson’s stepped aside in favor of him? At this point though, I doubt either one will run, which is fine with me.

I'm starting to believe that Fred is waiting until September to better take the temperture of the nation on Iraq. If Iraq is still stuck in a downward spiral (from a perception stand point), I don't think he's going to run at all. If he has Presidential aspirations (and sure looks that way), he may be smart enough to not throw them away in year where the odds are stacked heavily against him (who really wants to be the guy that got creamed by Clinton or Obama - that would be the end of the political line for any Republican).
