So far the only public endorsements of Chiotti's idea have been from the head of the LR youth wing (a guy named Guilhem Caraymon who looks exactly like you imagine him to be),

Jeez, someone needs to work out the kinks in the Nick Fuentes cloning machine.

Youth wing leaders of right-wing parties are invariably cryptofascist creeps. Something about the kind of person who's drawn to right-wing activism at that age, I guess.

Some of the LR staffers have apparently changed the password code on social media accounts unilaterally so that Ciotti cannot tweet in LR's name. They've given him 24 hours to leave LR offices or they said they'll "do it themselves".

Amazing stuff.

It's not just staffers that are in open revolt, either. The LR political bureau is meeting today of its own initiative (whereas based on the party bylaws they are supposed to be called up by Ciotti) and will likely move to expel him. It looks like it's going to end up in a legal battle. Shades of Fillon vs Copé here.

...and in a new plot twist, Ciotti had the party offices closed to prevent the political bureau from meeting. That's the level we're on.

Now we can only assume the political bureau will meet in a tennis court instead.

How men like Eric Ciotti, Peter Dutton and Rick Scott are able to achieve any kind of success never ceases to amaze me.

In saner news, we have a tentative agreement on the splitting of constituencies in a left alliance:
- 229 for LFI
- 175 for PS
- 92 for EELV
- 50 for PCF

Amazing that LFI managed to get a plurality of constituencies again. Hopefully they took the least winnable ones, considering they're already overrepresented compared to their electoral strength. By any sound logic, PS should get the prime pickup opportunities.

What was the split amongst the NUPES parties last time?

Even if the seats are more favorable for PS this distribution gives Macron the opening to call this alliance a LFI dominated one.   Macron would like nothing  better than make this election about Macron vs RN vs LFI.   If some or most of LR goes with RN he gets his  wish.

326 for LFI, 100 for EELV and allies, 70 for PS, 50 for PCF.

He's definitely going to try to do that. We'll see if he succeeds, but that probably has more to do with media narratives and which figures emerge as leaders in the left's campaign than with what Macron says.

Btw this map adjusted the population centres, of the EU elections in France is doing the rounds and shows the rural-urban divide better (rather than Paris vs the rest)

The way this saga has been going, it sounds like the LR political bureau is more likely to meet in a boxing arena (or an open field of the kind where duels were traditionally organized).

Slightly off topic, but LR just makes me wonder whether their fate is a preview for the UK Tories?

Would Bardella actually become PM in case RN wins a majority? Just checked his Wikipedia page, the dude is born in 1995.

The bald fash Chiotti is speedrunning WW2 history and is now at the Hitler bunker stage, holed up in his office with the doors to the party hq locked, apparently surrounded by two people and having a meltdown. He has, among other things, fired Tabarot, who is the head of the party's committee in charge of settling nominations. Last night, he tweeted that he had received thousands of messages of support, definitely real I swear. Very normal behaviour.

The politburo of the party, which Chiotti claims has no right to meet by the statutes, is currently meeting, looking to expel Chiotti from the party.

The sort of psychodrama that makes the Copé/Fillon war of 2012 look very tame in comparison.

Enjoying all of this with some popcorn, the RN confirmed yesterday that, for them, the LR (Chiotti faction)-RN alliance is going ahead and mentioned that some 10 or so LR deputies will be supported by RN. No details as to who they are, because only one LR deputy has come out clearly in favour of this alliance (another, Likud deputy Meyer Habib, has insinuated that he's in favour), so perhaps there are some who may have gotten cold feet and preferred to stay silent about their views in the wake of the crisis in LR.

The LR political bureau has unanimously voted to expel Ciotti and set up an interim leadership.

Obviously Ciotti isn't recognizing that, so in all likelihood this is going to court. The fact remains that the vast majority of the LR parliamentary caucuses are on the political bureau's side, and for all intents and purposes they're all LR really is.

The current Prime Minister was born in 1989, so I'm not sure that age is his biggest impediment.

Was that a pro-Ciotti guy calling them "collabos"? Parody is dead.

I fail to see how LR survives this. The pro-Ciotti faction is probably just going to go ahead and vote RN at this point which divides the already much diminished LR party.

LR loyalists have endorsed all their incumbents except Ciotti and Christelle D’Intorni, who was also involved in the deal with RN. Not sure what's supposed to happen if more RN incumbents make a deal with RN (Bardella claimed they were ready to endorse a dozen of them). Not sure how they can juggle endorsing those.
