It's dawned on me that the oldest Gen Xers will be entering their sixties next year. For reference, the first Boomer president was elected 32 years ago at age 46. Biden is, and will likely be, the only Silent Generation president (caveat being that he was born on the cusp in absolute terms). Perhaps not too surprising because Silents are the smallest generation in the last hundred years.

I'm not really sure if this actually says anything about Gen Xers, but these are the latchkey kids born during the era of increasing divorce rates and single-parent households as well as significantly more women entering the workforce.

Trump and Biden were the first presidents to be elected at 70+, and in most Western countries, they would rank in top 3-5 of oldest heads of government at time of election. It is weird.

Eh arguably Obama is close enough, I have a tough time seeing both him and Trump as the same generation and culturally he was much closer to Gen X even if he was just a few years too old. This is part of why he had such appeal to youth in 2008.

What's also interesting though is that Kamala Harris is the first Gen X VP. And even she's a cusp case, she's only three years younger than Obama.

But I'm actually more surprised by and didn't realize until now that Biden is the only Silent Generation President.

Smallest generation in the amount of people being born and the general stereotype of being apathetic to changing the world. We will see a similar trajectory with the Silrnts where a Gen Xer won't be president in a decade or two, at a advanced age while Millennials will start to being elected en masse.

Therefore, there is a certain level of bitterness and "jonesing" for the level of doting and affluence granted to older Boomers but denied to them.

I don't think Biden's age factored into it. Biden won because his name wasn't Donald Trump. Most young people think everyone over 50 is a Boomer and older people tend to conflate the Silents and Boomers as one big "Hippie era" generation.

Definitely. Biden is also the only president who was born during the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt. Although Bush, Clinton and Trump were born in a year that was during a term that Roosevelt was initially elected to.

What's also mindblowing is that there wasn't a president born in the 1950s so far, and probably unlikely there ever will be.

Another shocker here is that Obama is still the only major party nominee who wasn't alive in 1950. And he will almost certainly remain that until 2028.
