He's said worse before when he said the GOP is worse than segregationists and his explanation was "at least they believed in democracy"

Biden liked Strom Thurmond because they agreed on mass incarceration for blacks.

MAGA ideology is not worthy of respect or being taken seriously. MAGA has been given thousands of chances to prove that wrong, and they always, ALWAYS disappoint.

People that think Biden saying this is inappropriate need to wake up and smell the roses.

The ones who complain the most about people being sensitive snowflakes will be the ones throwing the biggest fit about Biden saying this.

Biden's right. The MAGA movement is the modern-day version of the segregationists.

If I were a Southern segregationist I'd sue Biden for defamation.

If you have a racist who believes in democracy, or a racist who wants to overthrow democracy, which one is better if you have to choose?

Weak argument not rooted in reality. The average person isn’t going to hear it and be convinced. There’s a lot to criticize MAGA over, but racism isn’t exclusively a right-wing ideology.

He can try fearmongering but the horse has already bolted. Trump probably has a third of black men under 50.

The Right, as well as the Left can encompass many ideologies and forms and race could play a role in some ideologies. Once again not all.

For example in the 19th century Europe, Nationalism and Racism were inherently tied together. But was it " right wing "  ?  In today's world yes, but back then, the people opposing nationalism was extremeley conservative monarchists and the Catholic Church.

Would you call Christian Democracy a racist ideology ? Or the Liberal Conservative Strand that dnominates Europe ?

Nope, any poll that says that is complete bullsh*t.

Anyway, even if that were true, that's irrelevant. Some Black people can be self-hating (and obviously make stupid decisions).

It's a completely understandable trend. Biden is unpopular across all demographics, especially relative to 2020. The economy was great under Trump and he did a great job with branding / messaging for things like HBCU funding, black unemployment and the First Step Act.

How did that strategy work for Hilary Clinton?

I think your mistake is in assuming that politics is static. It may be just anecdotal data from me, but I determine the mood of Democrats collectively from politicalwire.com. When Hilary Clinton made those comments in 2016 there were an enormous number of 'civility Democrats' who chastised her for those comments. Maybe the 'civility Democrats' just don't go there anymore, but I think Democrats collectively are no where near as interested in civility/bipartisanship as they used to be following on 8/9 years now of Donald Trump and they certainly don't care anymore about the opinions of media commentators. Of course, many in the media who went after Hilary Clinton were, not surprisingly, swept up in Me Too.

So, I don't know who you're expecting a backlash from anymore other than maybe Joe Manchin and some of the media who most Democrats now recognize only pretend to care about civility in order to criticize Democrats, people like Chris Sillyza.

Part of what happened here is that I think many 'civility' Democrats recognized that Republicans and the mainstream conservative media were insincerely weaponizing demands for 'civility.' In this case, what Biden said fits what President Truman said: “I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell.”

Well, he was friends with some segregationists. But he was a Senator in the 1970s, and its not like it was uncommon back then. (Thurmond did an ad for Ford in 1976...)

I think he should had focused just in its "mob" nature, keeping it a dog whistle.

We all gonna be broke when this Eday ends no matter whom wins.  The difference is that Ds aren't gonna cut programs if they become the Governing party. The Rs want people to work for food stamps if they win that's why they will be called broke Maga supporters unless you are rich

I am gonna get broke if Biden wins but he supports reparations

Those same whites that go to ballgames and season passes whom supports Trump wants Rs to win but the other Maga supporters are gonna be broke

How did that strategy work for Hilary Clinton?

Why is it that Republicans are allowed to say the absolute worst things in the world about Democrats and liberals, but the moment we punch back, you guys have a complete meltdown?
