People v. Donald Trump is rapidly nearing a major milestone - closing arguments and jury deliberations could begin as early as next week. If Trump is convicted of even one of the 34 felony counts he's faced with in this case and sentenced before the Republican National Convention in July, what does the party do?

Felons can run for president. Trump being in jail is not a deterrent to him being nominated

He'll be nominated and on the ballot.  I'm sure many of the RNC would want to replace him in that situation, but they wouldn't have the spine to do so.

Trump's not going to jail for this any time soon even if convicted. It's too bad this is the first of his trials because it's relatively small potatoes and is the weakest case. Even if he is convicted it will be months/years before he sees even minimal jail time.

I'm hoping the judge gives him a 60 year minimum sentence with no appeals, and then says "59 of those years are for contesting the election. May this serve as notice that Our President's rule and will may never be contested" and bangs the gavel.

He'll be nominated.

He could singlehandedly blow up the convention with homemade C4 and they'll nominate him.

The cloud over Trump's head when it comes to being convicted has to do with how the sane 54% of the country who have never voted for him will take it, whether that's enough for them to finally back Biden or stop flirting with the idea of voting for Trump or a third party. And that also assumes those Americans remember and care for November.
