especially for those of you who do not agree with your family members political views?  This would also include events like Thanksgiving, Christmas, get togethers.... or even just visiting your parents, grandparents, etc.

For me, I remember I always felt really uncomfortable at very conservative uncles' house during the holidays because politics would always be brought up and I never felt it was appropriate to comment on it or contradict the host's views.

I don't even push back very much on family's views when they say something I really disagree with because I do not want to cause the stay or time spent with family to become sour.

What are your thoughts?

My family is pretty political in general so I am used to politics being discussed at family gatherings . Most of the times they result in some type of debate as well because most of them have strong views so I am used to that as well .

Fun fact when I visiting India a year and a half back , there was discussion on Russia/Ukraine and my mom taking the pro Ukraine side was definitely a proud son moment given my family who live in India are pro Russia and being in India they did make up the vast majority of people in the room .

No, because everyone agrees with me. Or they get steamrolled.

I find that people tend to assume that their audience agrees with them, and if you don't disabuse them of that notion then you're pretty much fine. I also tend to only pick fights on which I'm somewhat knowledgeable or that interact with my direct experience. I don't bother differing with people on topics that they're too emotionally attached to, so when arguing ("discussing") I prefer to focus on general principle rather than anything too related to people's identities.

Depends who the family is.

I stayed with my dad last year (in f***ing Florida) and knew I wouldn't really have to worry about him bringing anything up. He has a superpower to avoid the news and current events somehow.

I forced him to watch Biden's State of the Union though.

No. I can stand to hear people disagree with me politically. I'm not that fragile.

Yes, if my sister brings up Israel/Palestine, or my mother brings up literally anything.
