This is as much about establishing a pattern of deterrence to keep the ICC from unilaterally targeting American or American-allied officials who are not party to the ICC.

ICC has every right to prosecut all of thr Israeli officials in charge of the crimes against humanity being conducted in the Gaza strip. Fundamentally too many ideologues think that the country is actually with them and the only reason they don’t get what they want is because of their  “sellout party leadership” . It’s probably much easier to blame that then accept that :

- no the country is actually against their points of views

- they have to put in actual hard work in trying to convince others why their position is correct rather than just protest loudly about it
