then why wouldn’t 55% vote for Trump’s return.

Don’t see how Biden survives being viewed by 61% as a failure.

How does Biden overcome these dire numbers?

Biden stooges will un-skew that poll to show that 61% actually see Biden as a success and that 55% see Trump as a failure

It's obviously a fake poll. Not sure why that's even controversial to say.

It was a success, if an incomplete one, for him and his backers, it was a catastrophe for America.

If 55% of Americans truly think Trump's term was a success, America is doomed.

Agreed.

If you really a think a presidency that was tainted by scandals, attempted to rip off millions of healthcare, used the Justice Department as personal lawfirm, had massive turnover in personell, was used for self-enrichment, is responsible for Dobbs, constantly appealed to people's worst instincts, bungled the biggest health crisis in a century and attempted to stay in power via coup, you've honestly lost it.

My only explanation would be people having goldfish memories and only being nostalgic for the 2017-19 economy (which Trump largely inherited from Obama) while they don't care about scandals and crimes because they don't affect their personal lives. And somehow 2020 is forgotten, when the actual test of Trump's presidency arrived and he failed miserably.

I don't see how Biden wins this election with the numbers that are coming out. Americans have collective amnesia from the Trump nears and just miss how life was before the pandemic.

Since the unemployment rate has been low for so long they forgot Trump lost with 10 percent unemployment but voters don't like inflation

But Biden leads on every other issue

America is doomed even if Biden somehow wins. The fact that so many people were and are willing to vote for Trump won’t go away when he dies.

Even with my extremely low opinion of american voters in general, I am absolutely flabbergasted if anywhere near 55% of them actually think of the Trump presidency as a succes. While I am not into poll unskewing at all, it really doesn't make sense to me why the outcome of this election would even be in question if that number was true. The Trump presidency was an unmitigated disaster that was thoroughly rejected by a majority of the american people in 2020.

If his presidency was a success then why wasn't he re-elected? These posts are made by Trump supporters are more about convincing themselves of something than anything else. You know this isn't true.

Because Trump is such an amoral, odious, disgusting, corrupt creature that even conceding something good about him (which is way too generous in this instance, spurned by Americans' harmful short-term memories, no doubt) is only going so far.

It's why he has bo chance at winning the popular vote or getting more than 47% of the vote (and I would argue that's 47% too much). The majority of voting Americans just find him too repulsive to vote for no matter how they remember his presidency. That's why this election comes down to how much of that unbrainwashed 53 or 54% end up voting for Biden, or splintering to third parties.

How has anyone lived through the last eight years and still failed to figure out that none of these polls are trustworthy? I mean, come on! Shame on the polls for fooling you once, but shame you for buying this horsesh-t every single year and then acting shocked when you see the actual results.

Despite MSM narratives polling just had its best year this millenium in '22. Almost no bias when you take the actual average of polls and compare with results

Oh yeah, those averages were real close. Only 10 points off in some cases.

I will say that if these numbers, and other polls like them, are accurate then Biden is, indeed, toast.  But what about the opposite? What if, in spite of all the polls about approval ratings and likely voters, Biden solidly, if perhaps narrowly, wins re-election?

Will Republicans admit Trump was a terrible candidate, and re-nominating was at least foolish? Will we (Atlas, the general public, the media) finally admit that polling has died with landline telephones and the Greatest Generation, and that the entire "horserace" narrative the media loves to build is a big, stinky load of Donald Trump utterances?

2022 was strange because national polling was pretty spot on (House PV), but in most of the main competitive races underestimated Democrats.

I think when it comes to polling, we shouldn't be looking at past errors but just if the poll seems reasonable. What is Trump's path to an 8% victory in MI? How does Biden win WI by 17%?

Actually, polls during the mid-20th century weren't necessarily more accurate than polls conducted over the last 50 years or so. An article published by 538 shortly after the 2020 election indicated that from 1936 to 1968, the average polling error between Gallup's final pre-Election Day poll and the actual NPV results from those years was almost 6 points, whereas the average polling error from 1972 to 2020 when polling averages from those years were calculated using 538's standards (1972 was the earliest election cycle where there was sufficient polling to use 538's model) was just 2 points.

Reading the release, the poll seems to be among all Adults, not even segregated to Registered Voters?

"POLL3 | 1 OVERVIEW The study was conducted for CNN via web and telephone on the SSRS Opinion Panel, a nationally representative panel of U.S. adults ages 18 or older recruited using probability-based sampling techniques."

It's not surprising that if you ask low-info people who don't even bother to vote that you would get results like this. But Biden will win among those who actually do vote.
