Lately an interest of mine has been commercial aviation and airline routes. Perhaps this makes me a more "stereotypical" autistic person who loves train schedules, but it is what it is.

Anyway...mine was Delta Air Lines Flight 296, which is from Tokyo-Haneda to Atlanta. I took this flight in January 2023, and it's usually about 12 hours. If I remember correctly mine was just a fraction over that since we didn't fly as far north as we had on the way from Seattle to Tokyo. Given that I'm 6'3", I was very grateful to be in first class.

How about you all?

Bangalore-Paris CDG, 10 hours - followed immediately (i.e. step off one plane and board the next) by Paris-Atlanta, 9 hours.

Yuck, that sounds rough. I had a 5-hour layover in Atlanta at least before the flight back to Boston-Logan.

LAX-Zurich with Swiss. I think it was 12 hours, but not sure. It was 21 years ago.

13 hours on an AWACS from Tinker AFB to Montevideo. The plane was cold and loud and claustrophic and the aerial refueling was rough. Only time I ever vomited on a plane.

Long ago I went to California.
Once to San Diego, in 1982 or 1983.
Then San Francisco about 10 years later.

However, I believe that none of them were direct.

I've also been to AZ, UT, and most recently NV.

The farthest I've driven is NM.

I lived in CO 1956-1960. One way trips each time to and from PA.

So, in summary, I don't know how many of those flights had layovers.

PIT-PDX-SYD

What's worse is I have no desire to ever get on one of those death tubes ever again, but I'm going to end up doing this same stupid trip next summer when my wife and I go and visit her parents again.

At least when we did our New York trip this year, we went on Amtrak. I don't care that it took 8 hours to get there, at least we never had to leave the ground and I didn't have to medicate myself to get through it.

Do we count layovers or not?

Answer would be Sydney -> London with layovers, Taipei -> London without it.

LAX to Sydney on a Qantas Airways Airbus A380 in 2011.  That was a hell of a 16 hour flight in Economy, longer if you count the time it took to get from DC to LAX in the first place, and then that additional flight from Sydney to Canberra where my sister lived at the time.

5 hours total. South Bend to DFW, then DFW to Tucson. About to beat that in about a month with a single 6-hour flight from Chicago O'Hare to Fairbanks

To Cancun, Mexico. I think it was 3.5 hours from Newark.

BOM-ATL in 2008 on Delta (doesn't fly anymore).

16 hours 50 minutes.  I was fortunate to fly Business Elite (now Delta One) and I did get about 5-6 hours of sleep.  Watched three movies and didn't eat too much and drank little alcohol.    Still, the jet lag on arrival was horrible.

When I fly to India now, I stop in Europe (Paris, Amsterdam, London) for several hours or an overnight.  I feel much better after taking a shower and walking the connecting airport, and it makes the second flight to/from India somewhat more tolerable.

Nonstop from Atlanta to Buenos Aires, 10 hours.

The funny thing is that, for a flight this long, the time difference is marginal (BA is only +1h from EST.)  You leave Atlanta late at night (around 11PM, if I remember) and then arrive the next day around 10AM having the opportunity for pretty much a full night's rest.

I regularly fly the EWR -> CPT and the LHR -> CPT route, which clock in at 14 and 12 hours respectively.

I'm used to them, so I fly economy, catch up on some reading, and usually get a solid 7 hours or so of sleep. I've flown the route business before (free upgrade) and it's just not worth the increase in price IMO.

I believe my longest is Vienna to Chicago, with a slightly longer route due to weather conditions or something ... I want to say it was just under 10 hours or something.  That is CERTAINLY my limit, haha ... we met a nice Australian couple during our honeymoon in Edinburgh a couple years ago, and their description of their flight there gave me claustrophobia, and I have flown a lot!

London to Nashville. The shortest flight I've ever been on was Nashville to London a week later, which was slightly quicker.

I've gone Detroit to Narita en route to Singapore maybe six times, which is about 14 hours going west. Now you have to go through Seoul, which I've done once and I'd assume is slightly longer.

Hmm... I think it was LA to Tokyo at 10 hours, which only stopped in Tokyo to refuel and rotate the crew for an hour before immediately then flying another 8 hours to Singapore.

Possibly Toronto to Warsaw, but I don't remember how long that was, just that everyone looked like they were from 1986 and they had no form of entertainment whatsoever, making the flight feel about 20 hours long.

I did that flight in 2019.  Wasn't bad at all, especially with an empty seat next to you.

More worried for New York-Rome in a couple weeks just because I'll have to get to sleep on the plane at like 6-7 PM EDT if I want a remotely decent night's sleep before arriving in Rome at 7:15 AM.
