A quick check of page one of USGD a minute or so ago shows that, of non-stickied threads, 10 concern Israel and Gaza, 3 Russia and Ukraine, and 3 others either Venezuela, China (by way of TikTok), and deportations (to other countries). The dominating topic (aside from the current President) of the other threads is Trump.

Folks, do we still have a country?

I haven't opened these topics but they seem like they belong:

Politicians that have run for lower office

Sources: Marshal killed, officers shot while serving warrant in east Charlotte

1968 or 1972 DNC which was worse?

Kristi Noem fondly recalls the day she killed her dog

Texas Attracted California Techies. Now It’s Losing Thousands of Them

This is a good question. I sometimes feel this way about Canadian politics, where some of the top subjects of discussion tend to be foreign conflicts, things associated with Trump or wedge issues. Canada was a much nicer place 10 years ago when no one cared about Israel-Palestine but instead people focused on domestic issues.

Obviously, I think the US still has a country, and so does Canada, but maybe people need to be less distracted by foreign conflicts, TikTok and Trump's indictments.

I mean, the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza greatly concern the US. After the main combatants, the US is the most important nation in both conflicts.

China is our greatest rival. Immigration and the TikTok ban were the most talked about domestic issues in the last 6 months.

US doesn't exist in a vacuum, US actions have consequences across the world. TikTok ban and immigration directly concern American citizens. Gaza protests are on American colleges.

I really would just prefer all of the many, many threads of Israel-Gaza on USGD just get merged

Lots of these issues concern the US though or have a direct relation, like campus protests for Palestine.

The actual War in Gaza has a megathread in International Discussion but the mods have allowed like 15 campus protests threads on U.S. General Discussion, makes no sense.

Great horror film, I watched it three times in one week. The ending twist is freaky.
