my sister just messaged me asking if I wanted to see Aerosmith and the Black Crowes in Oct and I was "meh, maybe".  Went to check ticket prices and screw me stupid those prices are nuts.  $160 just to sit on the front side of the stage.  You can sit 300 feet up and behind the band for a measly 86 bucks.  That's nuts.

<and those are the listed prices, I have to assume the final price is going to be at least 10 bucks more than that>

The Rolling Stones in Perth were $700 each for normal seats.

I bought 2 tickets.

I posted a thread on this a while back in the economics section. Short version: there are many excellent concerts you can go to without the performers being famous and expensive. There are even many free  musical events available depending on where you live.

Pretty nuts, yeah. For big shows at least. I don't go to many stadium shows but it's pretty nuts how much some people pay especially for the better seats. I'm content for a "good enough" seat, so not as big of an issue for me.

Most regular shows I go to these days aren't much different, still in the $20-$30 range. Parking is what's truly out of control.

indeed, artists (like athletes) should get every penny they can.  Especially now-a-days when touring is the primary money maker for most bands.

It just sucks for regular jerks, but that's true of a lot of things and I believe trying to force a change here only makes things worse.  Regular jerks can do like the above posters suggest (and what I do to), only go to shows you can afford, there is a ton of good live music out there.  More than ever before.

Thanks to the free market Wink

If the performer(s) is/are major, famous celebrities, that's undoubtedly true. But performances by not-so-famous people,  ticket prices are quite reasonable. I sing in The Black Tulip Chorale,  and our tickets are only $15.
