Quote
Undergraduate applications to Harvard University dropped this year following a chaotic period that saw the historic Ivy League school’s once-stellar reputation tarnished by antisemitism and plagiarism scandals.

Harvard announced Thursday it received 54,008 applicants for the class of 2028, down 5% from the year before.

Haven’t most schools seen applications decline? Not sure this is specifically a Harvard issue.

Another underrated aspect might just be the cost of attending if you aren't rich or getting a scholarship. It's probably a bigger consideration these days.

The Ivies have generous financial aid. Most kids are paying surprisingly little. These colleges really don't want someone to be admitted and forced to not attend because of the cost.

They don't do needs blind admission, so they presumably are biased against poor people.

All Ivies are needs blind for US students. If your family is rich enough to make a significant donation then it might matter, but Harvard does not care whether the family makes $100k or $400k.

This.  You have to be in top 5%ish parental incomes before anyone is paying full price at Harvard.  Even with top 10-20% parental incomes it costs less than in-state tuition most places.  For parental incomes below the national median, it's 100% free with additional subsidies for living expenses (they will literally send poor students from the South free winter clothes, for example).
