Literally has blood on his hands for killing the public option, but I'll refrain from speaking ill of the dead.

He was also a Connecticut State Senator from 1971-1980 (losing reelection in the Reagan landslide) and the Connecticut State Attorney General from 1983 until his election to the U.S Senate.

In 1988 he defeated a genuinely decent Republican, Lowell Weicker, the incumbent Senator even as George H.W Bush carried Connecticut.

An odd combination of Scoop Jackson, Joe Manchin and Krysten Simena.

HP, obviously.

In the 1970 Senate election he supported the anti war Democrat running against the pro-war incumbent Democrat running as an independent. The Republican won. In 1988, he defeated the Republican from the right. And in 2006 he was the pro-war incumbent running as an independent.

Horrible person, I'm sorry.

In seeing retrospectives on him his "independence" keeps being touted, but that was the worst thing about him.

Weird that he is perceived worse on here than McCain.

There was a type of revisionism that McCain received during his final years for opposing Trump and supporting Obamacare that Lieberman did not experience. In addition to that, he  (McCain) was also respected by many for being a war hero, even if some of that respect was suspended during his 2008 campaign.

FF overall, but some of his views on domestic issues are too authoritarian for my liking.

Will be remembered for the bizarre, almost incomprehensible, final part of his public office career.

Not going to be mean while the body isn’t even cold but what he did to sabotage the public option is an embodiment of the worst of Washington politics

I voted FF because his overall record is one I approve of, but I have to agree 1,000% with this. In retrospect...

He didn't sabotage the public option (which was already killed by the likes of Max Baucus and Ben Nelson) but he did kill the compromise alternative (Medicare buy in). Definitely one of those people who believed being a vain egotist was a mark of grand statemanship.

HP for being a neocon, especially his lasting support of the Iraq war and killing the public option.

It's really unfortunate Al Gore didn't pick Bob Graham as his running mate in 2000. I'm sure he would have won Florida outside any recount margin.
