This would be my guess :

I think Montana would clearly be the best shot for a GOP pickup and WV would be a pure tossup with Justice vs Manchin and it would be Safe D if Justice does not run.

AZ also is safe D if Lake gets the nomination. I could also see the GOP trying to recruit Charlie Baker or Karyn Polito to run for the Senate as well

In 1988 Jim Sasser won Tennessee by like thirty points. Byrd also won big in West Virginia. Nebraska also flipped.

West Virginia should be likely or lean D assuming Manchin would run again which he likely would, Nebraska special would be lean R as would Tennessee and Mississippi.

I meant 1980s style level ticket splitting , not 1980s political leanings of each state

Actually, you’re thinking about this the wrong way. With 1980s polarization, Tester would be safe, and Ricketts (and maybe Warren) would be vulnerable.

Idk about the rest, but I absolutely agree that MT would be Safe Tester. The fact that he still has a fighting chance now, in 2024, in a state as red as MT, should be quite telling.
