This thread is basically a repeat of the one I made two years ago.

MO-SEN: Josh Hawley is unopposed in the Republican primary, which is unusual; even incumbent US Senators of Missouri usually have some minor opposition in their party's primary. A total of four people have filed to run in the Democratic primary; three we already knew about, and who filed on the first day -- Lucas Kunce, Karla May, and December Harmon. But yesterday, the next-to-last day in which to file, a fourth name appeared as a Dem running in the primary: Mita Biswas, whom I've never heard of. That's an Indian female name. This is, however, a basically Karla versus Lucas race. There's also a Libertarian running, and Independent candidate Jared Young is certainly trying to get enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot. If any other minor party candidates want to run, like Green Party and/or Constitution Party, they have to gather signatures too, like Young, and turn them in by July 29.

MO-01: The race between incumbent Cori Bush and her most important opponent, St. Louis County Prosecuting Atty. Wesley Bell, is certainly well-known this year, and Bell is clearly leading Bush by a wide margin in all the polls. Former state Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal is not going to be a threat, and certainly the fourth person who has filed to run in the D primary, Ron Harshaw, is going to come in a distant last place. Five Republicans and one Libertarian have also filed.

MO-02: The fact that Ray Hartmann is running is enormously fascinating. He'll easily swamp one minor candidate who also filed as a Dem (filed today, the last day), but he's going to have an uphill battle trying to take down Ann Wagner in a district that was obviously drawn to become more Republican. And Hartmann's reputation for being so staunchly liberal is more of a hindrance than a help. Wagner has one minor opponent in the GOP primary and there will be a Libertarian too in November.

MO-03: The first Republican to announce that she's running for the Republican nomination in this district, Mary Elizabeth Coleman, withdrew from this race today and switched to run for MO Secretary of State instead. But there are a total of 8 candidates running in the GOP primary, including two former state Senators, Kurt Schaefer (2009-2017) and Bob Onder (2015-2023). A one-term state Rep. is running as well, a black guy by the name of Justin Hicks, who's representing a district extremely similar to the one Onder used to represent. Among the other five who are going to be on the ballot, one is named Arnie Dienoff; I've met him once, he's a friend of my sister, and he's been running for some office over and over again for over 25 years. On the Dems' side, Bethany Mann is a repeat candidate who lost to Luetkemeyer in 2022; she has one opponent in the primary. There's also a Libertarian who will be on the ballot in November.

MO-04: Incumbent Mark Alford is unopposed in the primary; two Dems and a Libertarian are running. I'm surprised Jack Truman is not running; I thought he announced that he would run. He's a nephew of Harry Truman and has run for Congress is a couple of the Missouri districts at least 4 times before.

MO-05: Incumbent Emanuel Cleaver II is unopposed in his primary, and the only Republican who filed this year is Jackson County "Legislator" (i.e., effectively a county councilor) Sean Smith. Lo and behold, Jacob Turk did not file! Turk has been the nominee who ran against Cleaver in eight of the last 9 elections! The Libertarian in this race has been a candidate for a few other offices in recent years.

MO-06: Sam Graves has got three minor opponents in the GOP primary. Two Democrats and a Libertarian are also running.

MO-07: Eric Burlison also has three minor opponents in his primary. The only Democrat who filed is the mayor of the city of Forsyth, MO -- Missi Hesketh. And, like all the other districts, there's a Libertarian running (who has been a candidate at least once before).

MO-08: Incumbent Jason Smith has two minor opponents in the primary, and two Democrats and one Libertarian are running too. One of the Democrats who has filed has the unusual name Franklin Delano Roth II.

Last week Jared Young submitted 26,000 signatures on petitions to get his name on the ballot, but what he is also trying to do is to establish a new political party, that he calls The Better Party, and his intent is that he'll be the nominee of that new party.
