First round: Country. Go.

Like some Johnny Cash and some scattered old trad country stuff, but by and large not a fan.

I guess stuff like Beck's Sea Change and early Wilco gets called "alt country" by some people but it just sounds like mildly folksy indie rock to me.

Elvis, ZZ Top, and Buck Owens are the records I grew up as a kid.

What do you think?

Way too broad to really give a definitive opinion here because Johnny Cash is great but modern “pop country” is garbage. Unfortunately the latter is what comes to mind most so I guess HG, but it’s a light HG because of the others that are ok or good

Freedom genre (Carter Family, etc) that degenerated into twangy fratboy pop. Still Freedom Genre when you take in the bulk of it from the Carters at least up until Conway Twitty's demise.

I defer to Frank for deeper analysis.

if I take all forms of music and put them in order of how I like 'em, country would probably just make the top half, so FF

Very much depends. These songs would be among my favorites:

Special hats off to Alabama for being the first band I saw live!

Bro country and similar-type crap: hard pass.

Didn't know that! I think I'm ever so slightly partial to the B&D cover.

Great country music (George Strait, Johnny/Rosanne Cash, and the best of the 60s and 70s) petered out sometime in the 1980s.

In practice, mixed; on balance, FF

Good modern country is still made, but you won't hear it on the radio

Horrible genre, at least as of the 1980s and on.

But some of the older country is good.

Not generally a fan of dividing music genre's by FF/HP. As I grow older I realise most music genres have good stuff and bad stuff.

Unfortunately in country's case the bad stuff (at least in the modern era) outweighs the good stuff. Traditional or the more alt-country styles are good.

What do you consider to be the "good stuff" and "bad stuff" of emo?

I like old country like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, and Connie Converse. I really like indie folk, like the Oh Hellos and Elephant Revival.

I don't care for 90s "big" country like Garth Brooks or Shania Twain.
