John Barnett had worked for Boeing for 32 years, until his retirement in 2017.

In the days before his death, he had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against the company.

Boeing said it was saddened to hear of Mr Barnett's passing. The Charleston County coroner confirmed his death to the BBC on Monday.

It said the 62-year-old had died from a "self-inflicted" wound on 9 March and police were investigating.

Having just seen "Killers of the Flower Moon" yesterday, I can't help but be suspicious of "suicides".  Are they sure he didn't jump out of a window in Russia?

Boeing whistleblower found dead in US
Quote
After retiring, he embarked on a long-running legal action against the company.

He accused it of denigrating his character and hampering his career because of the issues he pointed out - charges rejected by Boeing.

At the time of his death, Mr Barnett had been in Charleston for legal interviews linked to that case.

Last week, he gave a formal deposition in which he was questioned by Boeing's lawyers, before being cross-examined by his own counsel.

He had been due to undergo further questioning on Saturday. When he did not appear, enquiries were made at his hotel.

Qui bono? makes it difficult to see this as anything but an assassination. Mr. Barnett is the Karen Silkwood of 2024.

Considering everything's that been going on with Boeing in the past several years, it's making me legit nervous to fly on their planes (at least recent planes and particularly the 737 MAX). I've been on planes since I was an infant and never been afraid. I can't say I'd be comfortable on Boeing's newest planes.

Despite Boeing's corporate malfeasance and shoddy production, air travel is safer than it's ever been.

I'm aware of that, but it is until it isn't. It almost seems like Boeing's waiting for some catastrophe, waiting for another AA Flight 191.

This should obviously be investigated, but these knee-jerk conspiracy reactions whenever something like this happens always seems so juvenile to me. Do people honestly believe that Boeing hired an assassin? This isn't the movies.

Took our local media 3 days to report it. Wouldn't want to ruin our city's image for the tourists who come here!

I could see the pressure getting to the guy, but I don't think that it's a stretch to say that this is very convenient for Boeing. It'll remain to be seen, but it's questionable circumstances at best here.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist - and in fact go out of my way to explain to people why various conspiracies they believe in are incredibly stupid and basically impossible - but......c'mon, this one smells.

Corporations don't kill people; the government does.

Huh, they’re the same thing.

Also, who kills themselves in the parking lot of their hotel instead of their hotel room?

Suicide is irrational by nature, so trying to make sense of the details is futile (unless they’re just physiological bizarre)

Corporations don't kill people; the government does.

Corporations kill people all the time and whenever governments kill people it's usually at the behest of the corporate interest.

Shell oil paid Nigerian military to put down protests, court documents show

A lot of you guys very obviously don't read history or follow global news.

I have no opinion on this Boeing case, but you don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to know corporations have people killed.

Most CEOs are sociopaths so they almost assuredly want to kill a lot more people than what they actually do.

Just like the possible assasination of those Whistleblowers didn't prevent Three Mile Island from happening anyway, this one too won't prevent Boeing planes from crashing.

Already the public damage to their reputation is very large, people start to refuse to fly on a Boeing.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2024/01/11/flight-anxiety-boeing-737-max-door-plug/

https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/i-want-to-get-off-the-plane-the-passengers-refusing-to-fly-on-boeing-s-737-max-1.6793736

At this rate Boeing Corp. should divest from commercial planes.
