What state will next vote for a Republican presidential candidate first? New Jersey or New York?

I would strongly expect it to be both states flipping in the same election if/when it does happen, though I could see NJ and NY voting R while CT still votes D.

Jersey. Sure, NYC made NY swing rightward in 2020, but its counterpart in NJ gave NJ a noticeably muted leftward swing (compared to nearby Mid-Atlantic states and New England). Also NY has a higher floor for Democrats than NJ does, with a larger base of safe voters.

Though as Skill & Chance noted, it's entirely possible they both flip the same cycle (in which case I still expect NJ to vote to the right of NY).
