I would have given a C if she were a character in a high school play.

But unlike others, I didnt have any problems with her doing it from a kitchen if everything hadnt been so fake.

See I didn't think the exaggerated performance was a problem, but I did think putting a woman from Alabama in a kitchen was about the worst GOP optics possible right now.

To be clear, Tommy isn't aware that she isn't a housewife, correct? I assume he thinks all women are housewives.

That's what is sad about all of this. Katie is an attorney and was picked to play the damsel in distress.

ASMR vibes. There's something very strange going on here, and not just when she lingers on the prurient details of sex trafficking.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the SOTU response is one of the dumbest American political traditions and absolutely worthless The best thing to do with it is do away with it altogether. The next best thing would be to do what the Democrats did for two years and have it be delivered by the Congressional leadership when the Democrats' SOTU response to Bush was jointly delivered by Nancy Pelosi and Tom Daschle and then Pelosi and Harry Reid. At least then it has an air of officiality from the closest thing the US has to an Opposition Leader like in most countries. And yes, absolutely no one wants to see Mike Johnson or Mitch McConnell speak, but that also means greatly diminished expectations, a good thing in this case.

Letting a "rising star" deliver it is pointless because it's never actually propelled anyone's career and previous deliverers include Bobby Jindal and Stacy Abrams. Looking at the list it's kind of a kiss of death. And this also sets expectations that are never met. In the case of Katie Britt the only thing she has going for "rising star" status is she's a relatively young woman. But that doesn't make her an effective advocate or persuasive, as we're learning. Johnson and McConnell putting anyone who actually bothers to watches to sleep is actually a better outcome.

Incredibly awkward. It was like watching an athlete or musician host 'Saturday Night Live' with no prior acting experience.

As I said last night, she’s a terrible speaker. She simultaneously felt insincere, unprofessional, and on the verge of tears. And the “I’m a wife first and foremost” while in her kitchen was awful optics in the context of the GOP’s assault on women.

It did no harm, but it was unimpressive.  She came off as an attractive actress with B movie acting skills.  She seemed scripted and phony, using acting flourishes here and there.  She would be a terrible pick for Trump's VP; she'd be better than Palin but not by much.

The Republicans should have picked Tom Cotton to do the rebuttal.  Tom Cotton would have actually provided a speech that was a speech given the actual State of the Union; he'd have been knowledgeable, forceful, and people would have had to come up with good arguments to refute him.  THAT would have been impressive.

What could go wrong with a guy who has all the charisma of a wet towel and said a few years ago that slavery was a "necessary evil"?

That was absolutely dreadful. This is career-ending stuff right here. Nobody should ever take this woman seriously again.

I've only watched about 2 minutes, but she seems so passive aggressive. That smile is so forced. It sounds like she's giving this whole speech against her will.

This! Even if the speech's content was good, the delivery made it sound so goddamn insincere.

You guys ever watch Pitch Perfect?  You know the blonde girl who's the leader of the Bellas, and does everything really overdramatic and just thinks she's absolutely crushing it while everyone else thinks she's kinda cringey?  That's what I was thinking of.

I was thinking more along the lines of Dolores Umbridge, tbh.

This is the same guy who repeatedly asked a guy from Singapore if he was from the CCP, ftr (kudos to the man being questioned, btw - if I were in his shoes I'd lose my temper by the 4th or 5th time I got asked the same damn question).

I don't think "knowledgeable" or "forceful" (or charismatic) fall into Cotton's forte (actually, I don't know what does, aside from race-baiting xenophobia).

LMAO. Tbf, this isn't a surprise coming from the guy who couldn't name the three branches of government.

I cried, I whispered, I shouted, I whispered and shouted at the same time, I awkwardly frozen smiled. I experienced every emotion known to Xanax. It was better than Cats. 10 out of 10.

That's unfair! Joe Kennedy III gave one and look where he is now!

I think that somehow would've been worse.
