The “I’m a fat soccer mom” schtick is really grating. She’s an HP.

No.

Although she makes a good case for California ditching it's "Jungle Primary" system and going back to the old way of party primaries to nominate folks.

I would have expected Garvey to get around a third of the vote.  He's got name rec, and while he's 75, he promised to serve only one term.  As awful as Schiff is on a number of levels, he's probably better than Lee and Porter.  (Truthfully, I would not expect Garvey to be anything more than a correct vote.)

Not really. Rather disappointed, really.

Like, she wasn’t even close to winning. Even if you added Lee’s totals (a dubious addition at best), she still would’ve been like 10% off second place. I vaguely get her complaint about how cynical it is for a Dem to prop up a Rep like that, but rigged? Uh, no.

This (I'm still a minor, of course, but I got both my parents to fill in the bubble for Garvey to make sure that Porter was completely locked out from the runoff, which would ensure a Schiff victory).

I vaguely get her complaint about how cynical it is for a Dem to prop up a Rep like that, but rigged?

Fwiw, her own campaign tried increasing support for Early (similar to the ratf**king the Democrats did in MI03 in 2022) to siphon away votes from Garvey.

And it turned out to be as successful as her own campaign

The Jewish war on Gaza affected her campaign as Schiff was the beneficiary of that not Porter and especially not Lee

No, I do not feel bad for any so-called 'progressive', unless there is a good reason for it (in this case, there isn't).

Pressure is gonna build on her to endorse SCHIFF

I didn't support Schiff I supported Porter but I knew if I voted for Porter it will be a vote for Garvey

White women voted for Porter, I have talked to many blks they are gonna hold their nose and vote Schiff despite his stance on Israel

If I wanted people to believe the election was rigged, I simply would have gotten more than 14% of the vote.

I've become much less sympathetic to this argument as time has gone on. From Nina Turner's quip about ((evil money)) to this sh*t, it's clear that these candidates had bigger problems.

Money is huge, and no one PAC should be spending as much money as an entire campaign. But they can. Even then is not an insurmountable advantage. Summer Lee is one example. Even on the establishment side, John Fetterman or Chris Pappas overcame massive outside, corporate spending and won an election. The all-powerful Jewbux couldn't even take out Tlaib and Omar! And Tlaib has actively hedged on Biden since October 7th.

If I wanted people to believe outside money stole my election, I would get more than 14% of the vote. I would also not spend 8 years bashing the Democratic nominee and the party as a whole. Candidates have proven that they can overcome their flaws and the environment. It's time to actually do it.

of all the silly little thread themes Atlas has, I find this one the weirdest.  Why would anyone feel sorry for any of these people?  'cause they lost an election?  Isn't there at least one loser in every election?  That doesn't make any sense.

"hot or nots" makes sense, gross and we probably shouldn't do them, but they make sense.  FF/HP polls on our fellow posters makes sense, there are good arguments against them, but I understand the point.  "do you feel sorry for this uber rich person who had a minor negative happen to them?", nope, no sense.

It's funny that while you were a Sanders diehard in 2016-2020 and even left the Democrats over it, but are no longer sympathetic to the idea that money can rig an election. I was a Clinton guy, although somewhat sympathetic, didn't think the 2016 primary was rigged. But now, I agree with Porter that the primary was rigged, and you may be more likely to sport a D avatar in the future than me.

In both cases, I supported the female candidate and you supported the male candidate. I should point out that on Open Secrets, Fetterman actually outspent Oz (total spending $75 million to $49 million) and also had more outside money supporting him than Oz. https://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary?cycle=2022&id=PAS1

Porter otoh was outspent by Schiff, $23 million - $38 million, and had $10 million opposing her by a crypto PAC! https://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary?cycle=2024&id=CAS2

I won't even get into Summer Lee and Pappas because, running for a Congressional seat or in a state like NH is obviously nothing like running in California. My view remains that money plays a corrosive role in politics that undermines our democracy, particularly in states like CA, but that the extreme charges of the Sanders supporters in 2016 were exaggerated.
