In my experience, vegetarian voters lean Democratic, but perhaps somewhat less than people think. There's a lot of people that are vegetarian due to digestive system disorders or religious reasons.

Vegan voters are probably around 80-90% Democratic, with a significant chunk of the rest being Green Party voters. Most vegans I encounter usually seem to be doing it to make a statement about the meat industry.

Perhaps not 100% Democratic, but pretty sizably.

So as a vegan, there's definitely a huge chunk subscribed to a leftist belief system, but the political thought is not nearly as unanimous as some think. I feel that it's more likely to see more fringe vegans on the left and the right as a result of not being as inclined to follow social norms (social norms like an omnivorous diet).

Some people go vegan or vegetarian for health or religious reasons instead of ethical reasons (which is totally valid too!). For health reasons, some vegetarians and vegans may be older and some may come from areas with lower life expectancy rates (which you can see happening in both Democratic and Republican strongholds).

For religious reasons you can look at many Hindus (which if Indian-American voting patterns are representative) clearly leans Democratic, or 7th Day Adventists (which I feel is more of a mixed bag politically).

So I'd say yes, vegetarians and vegans as a whole lean towards the Democrats, but it's not a total wash.

They definitely are more white than the population as a whole so even if vegetarians and vegans are more left leaning than the average white voter I think they area actually fairly evenly divided.

I found this post from a source I'm not entirely sure about:

I’m guessing vegetarian Hindus and Jains are largely Democratic.
Obviously those who are vegetarian for environmental reasons are going to be predominantly third party or Democratic.
