I recommend (all British)
1.The Prisoner (not the remake, the original)
2.Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister
3.A Very British Coup

I've seen the original series. The remake ran much longer. The original series did not go off the air due to low ratings, but due to being too expensive (for the ratings.) The much cheaper original follow-up, Gallatica 1980 went off the air due to low ratings likely partly caused by the show running at 7 PM, which at that time was mandated for children's viewing. So, the show had to include education lessons for children (which it actually did very well) but also had to limit the amount of violence. In the end, the show was geared too much for children.

The episode of Family Guy where Lois runs for mayor.

Did that happen? I remember there was one where Brian and Quagmire ran against each other for mayor.

I'm sure a lot of people here have seen it, but Veep really encapsulates DC much better than House of Cards or West Wing.

The classic series is fascinating. Even after Star Wars, how did a broadcast network decide to dump enormous sums of money into a youth-oriented space opera inspired by Mormon theology? Many years ago, I tried watching it and made it through about ten minutes. (And it's not as if I lack a tolerance for sci-fi schlock - I made it through Farscape.)

The reboot is a personal favorite. I can remember a time when it was one of the most discussed shows on the internet. Now it seems almost as forgotten as the original.

The first two seasons of House of Cards (seriously, stop watching after season 2).

The West Wing.

VEEP.

Parks and Recreation.

Another one that basically goes without saying, but which nobody has brought up yet: Servant of the People, which made Zelensky famous in the first place. Back in 2018-2019 it was available subbed in English on Netflix, and my roommates got very into it.

Made a thread about this show. I watched about ten episodes before my interest strayed elsewhere.

These, but watch UK House of Cards instead. Reminds me I still need to watch The Thick of It.

As someone who's watched both House of Cards AND West Wing but NOT Veep, I feel called out  Tongue

I’ll echo Veep and add White House Plumbers. WHP goes a bit off the deep end in the last episode, but the first four episodes are a hilarious depiction of the bungling burglary at Watergate.

House of Cards, UK Edition...but only the one actually titled that, the other two are just meh. Ian Richardson is phenomenal.

The Smiley Series with Alec Guiness as George Smiley is very good too, though that might not fit the purview of this exactly.

There have been many excellent television programmes about aspects of the political process in one way or another, but the thing about Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister is that it is the only one that is essential.

A Bed of Nails was a very good episode.
