My interpretation of the regions of the US:
I tried to make the map as clean as possible. Kentucky was the hardest one to choose but I put it in Mid-Atlantic due to Appalachia similar to WV.

I think Kentucky should be in the South.

No way Kentucky is mid-atlantic, it is culturally, historically and demographically southern

The more you overthink regions of the US the worse the end result is.

Northeast: ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, PA, NJ, DE, MD, DC

South: WV, KY, TN, SC, FL, GA, AL, MS, LA, AR, TX, OK, NC, VA

Midwest: KS, NE, SD, ND, MN, IA, MO, WI, IL, IN, MI, OH

West: AK, HI, WA, OR, CA, AZ, NV, ID, MT, WY, CO, NM, UT

Just the census definitions with MD, DE, and DC switched to Northeast to reflect them being dominated by the Northeast Megalopolis.

Left VA off this list

It wasn't a confederate state though similar to Missouri, Maryland, and Delaware.

Well he did manage to unite those who say Kentucky is Southern and those who say it’s Midwestern with this map, so I guess that’s an achievement.

The Census map with DC, DE and Maryland shifted to the Northeast is probably the best possible map. I could hear arguments for MO moving to the South, but I'm fine with them staying in the Midwest. All this said I understand why the Census refuses to make changes to their map.

Cosign this except I would keep MD DE DC in the south (not trying to make this one of those threads).

More esoteric realignments of the boundaries lead to absurdities, like Kentucky in the northeast. The only thing that really doesn't work about the census map is the placement of southern Missouri.

Of course, what this is capturing is that these regional divisions are trying to impose a divide on what is a gradual and unclassifiable continuum of vaguely defined traits. Places like Erie or Odessa or Cairo aren't really placeable in this scheme, but different schemes create their own unplaceable frontiers.

It's not how I would divide the regions, but is mostly reasonable other than KY, which just can't go into the mid-Atlantic. It just can't. I don't think it belongs in the Midwest either, but the Midwest would at least be a more reasonable choice (the South is the obvious and imo correct choice).

Also, I think if TX gets its own region, than AK and HI should too.
