Personally, I doubt the hosting rights are stripped, just because planning for the World Cup is such a logistical nightmare. But I think it should happen, if for no other reason than fans won't feel safe attending.

The murder rate in South Africa is almost 8 times that of the USA.

SA: 45 murders/100,000 people
USA: 6 murders/100,000 people

1) Who is Taylor Twellman?
2) And no, a USA World Cup is going to be the most money FIFA has made in a long time.

Obviously this is a ridiculous thing to say when Mexico is also a co-host. Also, of all the host cities for the upcoming World Cup, KC is the last city that should lose it. Two sons of oilmen with connections to Kansas and KC - Philip Anschutz and Lamar Hunt - have done more to grow the sport in the US than just about anyone else. The city and region deserve their chance to welcome the world and put themselves on the map.

No

The Olympics/World Cup should only be held in wealthy nations with existing facilities. Developing nations do not need to use precious funds to build stadiums to impress westerns for a few weeks only to abandoned the buildings

I visited South Africa and followed this World Cup in 2010.
I was safe.

The events themselves will be very safe with top tier security services and contacts with local police. My fear though, is that many foreigners have this warped view of America that it's a safe first world country throughout. Less than an hour away from MetLife are the hoods of Newark (and in some cities they are even closer!) and unknowing tourists, or overly (drunk) passionate fans could find themselves in grave danger if they poke around in the wrong areas.

I always love when whiney white American liberals are confronted with the reality that there are in fact worse places to live on Earth than the US.

yes yes, obviously throughout the world there are plenty of gang members who like soccer.  Even here in the good ol' US of A.  I was stereotyping MLS fans that attend games and extrapolating from that, which I see now was wrong.  Still, I'm assuming a ticket to FIFA WC games are going to be pricey and not likely to attract the kind of person who would bring a gun and looking for any stupid excuse to use it.

These are very different events than free to attend, post championship celebrations.

Remember when the US lost the rights to the 2002 Winter Olympics because of 9/11?

Remember when the 1996 Olympics were cancelled after the Millennium Park bombing?

Remember when Russia invading Crimea got the 2014 Olympics ended early?

The thousands of potential (likely) terrorists that have crossed the border unmolested since 2020 is certainly concerning, so I can see why you would be afraid to attend large events.  The games won't be cancelled though, because that would be an admission of guilt.

But what about the thousands of potential (likely) security guards that have crossed the border unmolested since 2020?

(Hey if theyre gonna wildly speculate might as well join them)

Yes, but only because I don't want to deal with loser European soccer fans in my country, not for whatever dumb reason OP said.

Funny enough, there have been competitions only involving European soccer teams that took place in the US.
