I think the odds are high the Senate doesn't even take it up for trial.

House impeaches Alejandro Mayorkas, first Cabinet secretary to be impeached in almost 150 years

Quote
The House, by a narrow margin, has voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached in almost 150 years.

The result came one week after the stunning loss House Republicans suffered when they last tried to impeach Mayorkas and GOP defections and an absence sank the initial House floor vote.

Last week, the absence of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and the surprise attendance by Texas Democrat Al Green, who had just had surgery and was wheeled into the chamber to vote, denied Republicans a majority vote, leaving the vote deadlocked 215-215.

Given the narrow margins in the House, Republicans could only afford to lose a handful of votes depending on the number of members who are absent.

Bad idea. They essentially have a constitutional duty to do so.

What they should do is have Harris gavel them in, have her make a motion to immediately hold a vote on guilt, pass that motion, and then immediately hold the vote to acquit him and be done in an hour.

Very similar to the Schiff censure, in that they simply did it because they could.

I think it would have been funny for this to fail, and for House Republicans to have continued further and further down the ranks of the executive branch to satisfy their insatiable urge to impeach someone to get back at the Democrats. There's probably some member of the Federal Parole Board they could find some excuse to go after.

wikipedia has an article on the impeachment but I honestly don't think it even deserves its own article, just a subsection on his personal page.

The House GOP literally refuses to do anything about the border.

These f**ks don’t care about the border.

Done so Trump could have a talking point.

You proud of this party, Republicans? Putting electing your Cult Leader ahead of actually governing? Your party is dead,no matter what words you try to come up with to rationalise it.

This coming right after they defeated their own border security bill…  like too soon after… does this even work as a political play for anyone? Whose votes does this even get them?

Agree with BRTD here. Even McConnell said, when trump was impeached, that the Constitution compelled the Senate to hold a trial. Senate Democrats should do their Constitutional duty while giving this impeachment all of the respect that it deserves. Open it up, vote it down based on zero evidence and politically b**** smack MAGA Mike in the face.

I think they'll do a trial but a quick one.

Democrat argues Senate should hold quick trial on Mayorkas

Quote
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) argued that the Senate should hold a quick trial for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who was impeached by the House on Tuesday evening.

In an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill” before the vote was taken, Cuellar said the Senate should have the trial “as soon as possible” if Mayorkas was impeached, adding that he would not be convicted there. Mayorkas was impeached in a 214-213 vote on Tuesday night, becoming the first Cabinet official to be impeached since the 1870s.

“But nevertheless, I find it very interesting that our Republicans don’t want to do a bargain deal that they were talking about it for so many months, but they still want to impeach the secretary for not doing his job. But again, Congress is not doing its job by passing a border deal,” Cuellar told NewsNation’s Blake Burman.

House Republicans have made impeaching Mayorkas a top priority for them as they continue to focus on issues at the border. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) doubled down on the vote, saying that Mayorkas “deserved to be impeached.”

Biden and the Democrats: "take this massive W on border policy and in your own words lock down the border and stop the illegal immigration crisis because it's an emergency"

Republicans after their cult leader gave them marching orders: "lol no"

also Republicans: "impeach Mayorkas for contributing to the border crisis"

I don't think it's just politics nerds that can see these clowns for what they are. Anybody who starts paying half attention should notice the f__king circus of the 2024 Republican Party. In the words of Logan Roy: "you are NOT... serious people".

Do you want to vote for the liberal pro-democracy semi-serious political party or the bad faith socially conservative fascist anti-democracy clown car party? The fact that Biden isn't projected to win in November by a landslide is a scathing indictment of how strongly many Americans prioritize rejecting liberalism. It's more important than democracy or functioning government to these people. It's insane.

From a pre-MAGA era point of view, any principled right winger should vote Biden to show the GOP that they're rejecting clown car poltics and they're rejecting fascism and they're rejecting attacks on democracy.

Good to see Republicans addressing our most important problems. Let's reject the border deal but impeach the HS Director for not fixing the border.
