Obama leads! True, it is a poll polluted by the present of Gore in the data, but the "without Gore" shift suggests that people support Clinton on name recognition and fond memories, not the most solid base of support.

Its interesting that Thompsons announcement led to little boost in this poll, but rather sems to have hurt.

It is interesting to note that this poll done after Thompson's announcement (in contrast w/Rasmussen, which was actually done during the middle of Thompson's announcement) shows little change in his numbers (and also in contrast with SUSA's CA numbers).  Hopefully, more polls will clarify this issue for the rest of us.

McCain's numbers fell in both polls, however (but stayed the same in California).

Prediction: This poll will get more attention than the Rasmussen poll that had Obama ahead, simply because the media pays more attention to Gallup than Rasmussen.

I would say that is a pretty safe prediction but its too bad they aren't hooked up with CNN any more, as they would show the poll again and again all day.

Frank Newport of Gallup is suggesting that this poll represents just a blip, and that the next Gallup poll will likely have Clinton out in front again:
