Abolition of Farm Subsidies For Real Bill

Whereas, F.L. 9-13 "Farm Subsidies Abolition Act" did not abolish farm subsidies:

1. Sections I, II, IV, and V of the Farm Subsidies Abolition Act are repealed.
2. All farm subsidies are hereby abolished, effective from Fiscal Year 2008.

I shall be opposing this bill. I believe that the current Farm Subsidies Abolition Act is a very good piece of legislation and I commend those who drafted and passed it.

Yeah, I've just read through the original Senate debate. They did a good job.

I have to say that is greatly an accomplishment that Porce and myself were able to work out a bill together that reaches across party lines for the common good.  I encourage all to vote in favor, and I predict some crazy voting on this one.

I also wonder why the hell Porce would want to repeal Section V?

In the original Senate debate, he advocated that the government should not engage itself in promoting diversity in agri-produce.

What a reactionary... why not just call for continued massive handouts to McDonalds' farms instead? Same result, less hassle.

My friends, unless we revamp the entire food prodution system, farm subsides are the only thing that allows Atlasia to feed Atlasia, it would be a very dangerous step to have to rely on food from other countries.

Any thoughts?

So then you favor giving large farm corporations the power to keep Africans in poverty?

Please read the current Act. Things have changed.

My mistake.  I thought BRTD was referring to farm subsidies in general.

Right, starving people in the third world and charging above-market prices in the first is okay, as long as you're not a big corporation.

Nay

I think the Farm Subsidies Abolition Act of the Ninth Senate is a fine piece of legislation which addressed any major concerns I would have about farm subsidies.

Nay.  While we do need to get rid of farm subsidies, shock treatment is not the answer.
